Looking for work/school laptop $500 and under

What is your maximum budget?
I really would like not to spend more than $500, if possible. Cheaper is better, of course, but not if I have to sacrifice something important....

What country are you in?
US

What will be the uses of this laptop?
I mostly need it to handle my work files. A lot of file sharing, powerpoint, outlook, excel, etc etc.
I need to also be able to do school things on it, a big part of which is reading a lot of pdfs, maybe some CAD work.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Hey, as long as it doesn't suck or fall apart as soon as I touch it.

What screen size do you require?
I definitely don't need nor want a massive screen, nor do I want a teeny one. Just a regular, normal-sized screen. Around 14 -15.6.

What screen resolution do you require?
I don't really care. Too large kind of bugs me out, though.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New or refurbished

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
Preferable 5 hours or above. This is very important to me

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Some steam games. TF2, CSS, L4D2 on medium settings would be nice.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows is fine.

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Don't care either. As long as it can handle being in my backpack.

How much hard drive space do you need?
Doesn't matter I have a spare SSD sitting around. I'll probably just end up using that.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)

I would like a webcam on it, but not a major factor. DVD writer is a must. HDMI port is a plus. I prefer to have at least 1 usb 3.0 port.

Is there anything else we need to know?

A quiet, long lasting laptop.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, and I hope I provided enough information!

It's nice but the battery life is only up to 4 hours. It's also $550. Any other suggestions?

Read reviews it gets amazing battery life, AND it has a quad core APU + Dedicated GPU for crossfire so gaming will be quite decent. You can easily run Source games without issue on high settings. PLUS it is Lenovo which I am always a fan of their build quality.
