Computer freezing with machine gun like noise

Hey everyone,

My custom built PC keeps freezing usually when I play games and often when I try to dual screen or just when I have a few programs open in the background. When it freezes it plays the last half second of sound played over and over very quickly, sounds like a machine gun. I then have to manually force a shut down by holding the power button.

I have been on forums quite a few times. completed all the standard tests to track down the problem is most likely the graphics card not receiving enough power and just switching off, even though my power supply should be sufficient. Since then I went into the ASUS BIOS set the overall power usage to the highest default setting and since then it doesn't crash as much as it used to.

Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 7

Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 570 DirectCU II 1280MB
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO Motherboard B3
Power Supply: Silverstone Strider 850W Gold ST85F-G
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K

So what I'm wondering is - is there a way I can go into the BIOS and direct more power to the video card? Or even specify for the video card to to go into overdrive as a last resort? (sorry if that sounds stupid, hopefully the general idea gets across)

Any suggestions are highly appreciated!!

Is the gpu overclocked? IF so, your OC is unstable. I get this all the time when I have an unstable OC.

Ahkk I'm almost positive it is but is there a way to check to make sure!? Also is there a way to set a limit on it? Thanks for the reply!

*UPDATE* I just downloaded ASUS GPU Tweak and so far no crashes. Could the reason why I was crashing before be caused by no program setting limits to the GPU's different values? I'd be happy if all problems were as easy as just downloading a program :/

Don't think so as you have to have an application to OC the GPU in the first place. If you just got it, then the only other seniero I could think of was the OC from the factory was unstable, if there was one.
