While having higher latency and this latency would hinder CPU prodcutivity, the solution would be larger caches(increasing CPU die size & power consumption).

Uh... I thought all SRAM generally was higher latency, lower power therefor less heat. I thought the main price trade off was transistor count.. much like SLC -> MLC -> TLC driving the price real high.

I could be wrong, and would probably yield to your knowledge on this as I just have taken cursory looks at some information on the techs.

I don't know exactly myself... there's not that much memory specification information out there.


Don't forget that GDDR5 runs at a much higher clock which may mitigate the lower transister count.
