What is the best 1-2TB Internal?

Thread Starter
Im looking for the best internal hard drive for my new gaming rig im building. Im mostly interested in getting a 1-2TB drive with preference being a 2TB. So my question is what is the best drive out there with that amount of storage in overall terms concerning performance/relaility/price.

Thanks

I would go with a Western Digital Caviar Black or their NAS Red drives. I have owned both in the 1 TB configuration and they were equally satisfying and trouble free.

The blacks are more guided toward high performance (and they deliver), and are a popular choice here on OCN. But my Red was great as a storage drive and had very fast speeds as well, and is a bit cheaper. Just avoid Caviar Green, problems galore.

As far as internal hard drives go, I only get WD Caviar Blacks, they are solid as far as performance goes and if you are going to put your OS on a hard drive you might as well put it on one of these.

Yeah, I have heard good things about the Western Digital Black Series. But the price for the Seagate 2TB option is vary hard to pass up 99 dollars for 2TB sounds wonderful.

last 2 seagates I had BOTH failed within 5 months. there is a reason the WD drives cost more.

I have 2 of these Seagate 2TB in My Rig right now, 1 as my primary Data Drive, the other as Backup. Been using them since last September and not one bit of trouble. If you don't want Seagate then the WD Reds are a good option, Blacks are a lot more expensive because they have a longer warranty(5 vs 2 for Seagate/WD Green or 3 for WD Red).

Blues have 3 years warranty and as far as performance compared to Black 1TB about the same i guess.
I use 2 Hitachi 7k.1000Ds on my file server and the work fine and are cheaper compared to Blues by about 10$ has about the same speeds (HINT: They are also made by WD)

totally agree, a lot of people swear by them. i think to some degree, we all are taking a chance at failure.

as long as he gets a solid warranty and a company that stands by the product, he should be fine.
