Hot FX-8350 (in Prime95 only) - Page 2

I haven't ran prime95 yet. Did 10 runs of IBT and it said it was stable. In the bios you can press f12 on mine to take a screenshot, but you have to have a flash drive plugged in. I can run it for a bit if you really need me too but all I use my rig for is occasional gaming and web browsing lol. Obviously don't use all the same settings as me because I have a better cooler.

I would just be really curious, to see if it is an issue with Prim3+Vishera CPUs...

Like I said, I think I saw a couple posts where 8350 owners said they ran Prime for 20+ hours, never exceeding 60C, and some of these were OCd to 4.5+

If you don't mind running it, I'd really appreciate seeing the results for sure, but don't burn your CPU up for me ;]

I will try this IBT and see what mine says. I've never used that app before, but what were you temps while testing/benchmarking?

Getting thermal paste and the HSF to match perfect can only do so much. I suggest undervolting/clocking. You should've got an FX-8320 and an aftermarket HSF with the rest. mad.gif

Are you getting high temps in the real world?

How many of them were using the stock HSF is what you should be asking.

I just ran IBT for 10 passes on standard and my max temp was 46C. Will run 10 on high and post results.

Just ran it on high and max was 51C although it mainly stayed around 45ish.

Like I said, temps in the real world seem fine.

Gaming in BF3 or Starcraft II, both high CPU load games as far as I know, temps rarely, if ever, go above 55C.

My high in real world usage seems to be 54C, I think I may have seen 57C.

That why I'm so perplexed, and here seeking answers. It's only in Prime95 that I see the temp skyrocket to 67C, and extremely quickly at that.

I am going to try re-seating with new thermal paste application, and decreasing voltage.

Just for control's sake, if I set all my settings back to stock, I should be able to run Prime95 indefinitely, under 62-63C, and totally stable, correct? ***Indefinitely right??

It all depends on how well your case flows and how good the fans are. I rarely run prime95 but I believe if you set everything to stock it may run a little hotter because you will have turbo core enabled. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Every CPU is different. Maybe you just got one that likes to run hot. Knowing that, I can't say. + I hate stock HSF wink.gif

That's discouraging...

I mean if I did get an 8350 that "just likes to run hot"... is that warrant for a replacement from Newegg or AMD directly?

first off, may I ask how I can take some of those of my own BIOS?

I will try some of your settings and tweak around with mine.

Also, with your OC, or even at stock settings, are you able to run Prime95? Indefinitely? What temps would you see if you did so?

Thanks again for these answers.

get a flash drive stick it in and press F12 in bios smile.gif

btw please let loose that fx 8350 and buy a decent aftermarket cooler smile.gif

its like an old fogey buying an audi TT and travelling at 35mph smile.gif

Your CPU isn't hot to me. You need this before you can really talk about your cpu being hot:
