1090T+ 7950

Thread Starter
I found my self in need to upgrade my older graphics card (HD4870), and since I saved up a little more money I decided that the HD 7950 would be a good new option, however I am affraid that the CPU will bottleneck the card in a way that makes the upgrade senseless, btw I run the AMD X6 1090T@ stock clock so it is still in pretty good shape if I have the need to OC, not being an expert in this field would you tell me if it is or not a safe bet to buy this new graphics card?

Thanks in advance.

Your cpu is just fine for a 7950. But it doesn't hurt to overclock it to about 3.8Ghz and the cpu-NB to about 2600MHz to help push the card even better.

These overclock speeds are very easy to obtain with a 1090t and a decent air cooler.

It is nice to know since some people (dunno if intel fanboys) said the bottleneck would be imense.

Have both perfect setup, 1090t at 3.8ghz and my 7950 at 1100/1575. Although when I pick up my 2nd 7950 I will probably go up to a 8350 just in case.

I have a 960t unlocked X6 running at 4.0Ghz with 7950 at 1100/1500 playing BF3 ultra (1080p) just fine.
7950 running at 100% but not the CPU.

1090T is just fine for a 7950. Currently able to run BF3 at max settings 60FPS constant no prob with just a 980 BE @4Ghz.

I have yet to see video of any AMD cpu pushing a single GPU to 98%+ 100% of the time in BF3 multiplayer. I've tried with a 965 @be 4.0 and 6300 @ 4.6. I would love to be wrong since I'm an AMD fan smile.gif
post #9 of 28
While playing BF3 on my 1090T, my GTX 460 SE is pretty much maxed out 100% of the time IIRC (may be wrong tongue.gif)

I'm pretty sure it would be different with a high end new GPU, but..... just to show it happens! thumb.gif

First.. this only for bf3?
Also you say ANY single gpu.. thats a rather broad statement.

For the record, i have a 1090t clocked to 4ghz and a 7850 oced to 1200 (about the same/slightly lower than 7950) which does not bottleneck and handles crysis 3 nicely
