well maybe not if you stand look at a wall or the sky, i'm not sure . but "playing" yes i got it

as has been said, you will be fine. I'm currently tweaking my tahiti LE card still and it will run fine. The only way it might not be good enough is if you plan on running eyefinity. Truthfully, i have no idea how it would run in triple monitor but single monitor, you will be fine.

I'm certainty not trying to start anything. If I could get an AMD cpu to push any GPU to 98% utilization 100% of the time in BF3 and Crysis 3 I'd build it. So far from my experience I wasn't able to do so. It would have frequent GPU usage drops when looking at heavy in-game activity, demanding draw distance or random in-your-face explosions.

Intel fan's need not reply here. I'm simply here because I see some saying that they're getting this great result from their AMD cpu and I would love to get that same result.

However, between my experience and I was unable to dig up a single youtube video with the results some say they're getting, I just don't see it possible.

Again, I mean no disrespect and I'm only here to get educated further.

Thanks OCN.

What good is GPU usage if FPS are low or high? So if I put my 4890 back in my system and crank settings to max, I will easily peg GPU usage at 100%. However, my FPS will not be good. Probably less than 20 at Max settings 1080P. However, I'm not ALWAYS at 100% GPU usage in BF3 on 64 Player maps online with my 7950, but I am at 60FPS and only that low because of Vsync. So, defining the capability of the CPU based off GPU usage isn't sufficient.

Thanks, that's been my experience as well. There's the CPU bottleneck I was expecting. Obviously there will be situations frequently when FPS dips below 60, lets say when using a mid range card such as a 7850. That's if you're in the action and not sniping on a mountain. The only way I can see around this situation is too have very strong GPU and the game settings cranked up to put as much stress as possible on the GPU. Is this a correct assumption?

When I used my 960t x4 at 4.2Ghz (NB 2800) I was bottleneck by it on BF3 (64 players). The cpu is 100% all the time and GPU is not. FPS will also be dropping to 30 from time to time.

When I changed the 960t x6 at 4.0Ghz (NB2800) my cpu usage is around 80% to low 90% ish across all cores and gpu is 100% most of the time. FPS is over 45 most of the time.

as I told you happens to me, I can talk more about Crysis 3 because I played watching the CPU and GPU use.

Not always at 100%, sometimes falls below but without using the CPU 100%, especially in real time intros, but playing almost 100% time

Crysis 3 i have much more pics, of almost every episode

Played with CPU to 4GHZ

Thanks for the pics. Multiplayer is what runs the CPU through its paces. The Crysis are campaign. Plus to be fair, Crysis is a tad jacked up with the ropes causing fps drops and inconsistencies scattered throughout the game.

Now, multiplayer BF3, assuming your settings are ULTRA to keep load on GPU....you mentioned you'll get drops here and there. With that strong of a GPU you're using then you're able to maintain your 60 fps? Regardless, It's my understanding that, especially in BF3 (well optimized at this point), if your GPU usage falls below 98% at any time your CPU is the bottleneck. Especially if under 90%, very noticeable perhaps.

I've built two somewhat extreme situations late last year.

Build 1) 965 BE @ 4.0 with a GTX 660. At 1080p regardless of settings I could not maintain 60 fps. Sure It would stay above 60 fps 90%+ of the time but for me, that's not good enough. Drops into the 30's during heavy explosions.

Build 2) 2500K stock and a HD 7770. Mix settings of HIGH and LOW or all LOW I could maintain 60 fps 99.9% of the time.

Based on just that alone would you think the 965 BE build would have been fine if the GPU was twice as strong? Then being able to maintain 60 fps 99.9% of the time?

Sorry to be a pain, I'm just trying to wrap my head around AMD cpu's people are using and able to maintain their great frame rates.

Yes is ultra settings, and yes 60 fps vsync ON , only occasional dips to 52/54 fps by a sec and back to 60, but very rare occasions.

As far as i know need 6 cores in AMD for get that 60fps in BF3 multi

1090T is a really nice cpu, overclock it to 4ghz and you won't have problems in most games. smile.gif
