Intel i3 3320 Opinions? - Page 2

Yeah that's why I'm limited because this is a budget pc and in a mini itx case but I'm just starting out on pc and this processor is supposed to be the best for the price

The i3-3220 should certainly be sufficient for a PC like you outlined. If you can stretch your budget a bit more (~$60), the quad-core i5-3470 would be the logical next step up.

Absolutely. As more and more games are being programmed to take advantage of multi-core CPUs, a quad-core i5 will greatly outperform an i3, which has only two physical cores and two additional "virtual cores" via hyper-threading.

See this Anandtech comparison for detailed benchmark stats.

Personally I would go for the I3 and save for a I7 later on. If going the i5 route the k version is what you want, but that will most likely be way over your budget. That's just what I would do though.

The i3-3220 is a great gaming CPU when paired with a discrete card.
It'll run poorly in BF3 and Crysis 3 multiplayer. Great in other games. I've had a few i3's combined with single cards like the 7850, GTX 660 and GTX 480.. You'll get dips into the 20's regardless of settings when things get slightly hectic. I will have my i5 3470 up for sale in the continental US for 150 shipped in case that's something you're interested in instead. Just PM me smile.gif

The i3-3220 is aimed at the general office PC and web browsing home user. With only two cores and 3MB of cache, you are going to find that it becomes the bottleneck in a gaming PC. I would recommend an i5-3570K if you can afford it - it's about $60-$80 more.

If cost is your primary concern, you should give the AMD processors and motherboards a look too. You can generally get comparable performance to Intel for 15-35% less money.

I have an i3-3220 set-up, what games and resolution are you wanting to play.?
and for those who think it can't game are totally incorrect, it at times might struggle at BF3 multi but that's it.
just ask me what you would like to know.

cheers.
