and by him starting out with an i3-3220 he also has upgrades even with a new socket coming out.
and I have seen the benches thus far on Haswell and if you have top notch SB or IB there is no need to go Haswell.
so with his i3 he has upgrades to i5's and i7's..
who needs AMD with it's higher TDP and lower IPC as you even stated.
Yes I do, however look at the prices, He obviously doesn't have much dough or he wouldn't even be considering an I3, the 6300 is 10 dollars more, vs ~$70 more for an I5, the 6300 allows for him to have a chip he wouldn't need to upgrade as soon, meaning he can put that $200 to $300 he would spend on a new chip in the bank and maybe skip haswell/ steamroller entirely
also, like I stated earlier, AMD's next gen chips will be available on the same socket, now based on what AMD is saying, we should expect a 30% increase in IPC (meaning realistically a 15% jump). Now an Oct core chip with that kind of IPC increase will flatten any current I7 on the market save the socket 2011 chips
