Intel i3 3320 Opinions? - Page 3

Honestly, I would get an FX-6300 if you plan on running photoshop, 6 physical cores, even with slightly lower IPC, will still beat the 2 physical, 2 logical cores of the I3 in multithreaded apps

just ask me what you would like to know.

cheers.
do you think it will bottleneck a sapphire HD 7850 2GB and will it be able to run most of the games out now to a reasonable standard?

I have my build based around this processor and if I change it won't I have to change a lot of the components?

Nope, you can easily upgrade to an 8 core, and it has been confirmed that AMD will stick with socket AM3+ for the next generation of chips, That I3 will be on a Dead socket, as intel is going from 1155 to 1150 for the next gen

You would only have to change the motherboard and yes it should play most games at a reasonable standard. As Malmentel said above it will only struggle in bf3 multiplayer. I would guess 64man server and struggle only means some fps drops, it should still be completely playable.

OP - not the i3-3220 will bottleneck an HD 7850, they pair up quite nicely..

You do realize if you OC the 6300, it will beat the i3 in everything except power draw

and do you realize he can also decide to get an i5-2400 or IB equal and blow the doors off the FX-6300...
and by him starting out with an i3-3220 he also has upgrades even with a new socket coming out.
and I have seen the benches thus far on Haswell and if you have top notch SB or IB there is no need to go Haswell.
so with his i3 he has upgrades to i5's and i7's..

who needs AMD with it's higher TDP and lower IPC as you even stated.

Yes I do, however look at the prices, He obviously doesn't have much dough or he wouldn't even be considering an I3, the 6300 is 10 dollars more, vs ~$70 more for an I5, the 6300 allows for him to have a chip he wouldn't need to upgrade as soon, meaning he can put that $200 to $300 he would spend on a new chip in the bank and maybe skip haswell/ steamroller entirely

also, like I stated earlier, AMD's next gen chips will be available on the same socket, now based on what AMD is saying, we should expect a 30% increase in IPC (meaning realistically a 15% jump). Now an Oct core chip with that kind of IPC increase will flatten any current I7 on the market save the socket 2011 chips

doh.gif I heard that before... rolleyes.gif
the only thing I can see from AMD is the A10-5800K APU or the FX-8320 as the 8350 is not worth it.
that's it and that's all.

as for the actual increase, maybe 10-15% at best.
and yes I'm a former AMD runner..

edit:
and look at the article, Steamroller is to be 30% over BD and not PD..
