Agreed, but he wanted to know.
64 bit really isn't anything amazing. I'm pretty sure you'd have a better experience using a 32 bit distro, and something besides Gentoo. I've you have the time to put into learning all of it then thats fine. I just know that most new user don't want to spend the weekend install and setting up Gentoo, they just simply want to use Linux as fast and easy as possible.

You'll find less apps and drivers for 64 bit, and 32 bit wont work unless you set up a 32 bit emulation layer. Take it from us whom have already been down that road.

installation went well, I'm not sure how to get cedega to work and my resolution wont go to 1920x1200, 1600x1200 is as high as the preference will go. other than that i got vlc and the music player to work as well as ethernet. got hopeful when the installation recognized my raided hdd's, they didnt come up after the install but thats alright. the next big step is to get the gaming to work. I installed the x86 nvidia drivers using the synaptic package manager though I dont see any sign of them being installed. any help getting cedega installed would be great.

For the Nvidia driver:

Press ctrl+alt+backspace
The X server should restart, and the nvidia logo should show and then take you to the login prompt. If not then do this:

login and open up a terminal. Applications->accessories->terminal.
Should be there. Then type: sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Then look for the section that list the card/graphics section and the driver is probably "nv" , change it to "nvidia"
Then find the section that says screen/monitor

look for part that looks like this
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1920x1200" "1280x1024" "1280x800" "1200x800" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection

then add the part that I put in bold. Than you should be able to change the resolution to 1920x1200. Save the file and press ctrl+alt+backspace again and if the nvidia drivers were installed the the nvidia logo should show.

Good site I found for install cedega. Its two videos, cannot get much better than that. Link

You may also want to try the beta Nvidia drivers if you plan on running beryl/compiz (the cube desktop thing)

Search "beryl nvidia" on ubuntuforums and there is a great howto there.

Also, many people share Cedega if you look in the right places or you can compile their CVS code from source. dangerous, your video shows the installation of an rpm file, which doesn't exactly apply here. Although the second video will be of use once he obtains and installs Cedega.
