Just beat Bioshock Infinite...am I the only one on the planet that thinks its o

Hmm it's so wired to me that this game can be unlikeable to some folks.

I'm not a big bioshock fan. I struggled to finish part one and never had the urge to play two. I wasn't looking forward to infinite and just bought it on a whim because I haven't had anything else to play. I haven't followed any new pre release.

To me, this is without a doubt the best game of the past few years. While the actual gameplay wasn't really anything special, the story, the music and how everything came together made it an unforgettable experience.

I keep seeing people say the same "while the game play wasn't that good"...isn't that kinda the point of a game? Don't get me wrong, I am definitely a story over game play person, but the game part of Infinite was SEVERELY lacking in just about every way.

However that seems to be the case with most people...still doesn't explain the 95 on Metacritic.

"Story was awesome but everything else was mediocre so I'm going to give it a 10 out of 10" rolleyes.gif

Personally, I loved it. It was just more risky than generic stuff these days.
But its also about perception. For me, I'm still realizing things about the games ending days after completing it.
And the subtle details while playing through. wink.gif

It's a good game. Just not a game I can play for long periods at a time. Controls are wonky. It's fun, just not hugely captivating for me.

I found the game truly the best I have ever played. The only game that comes close in my opinion is Bioshock 1.

However to really enjoy Infinite one must appreciate it for what it is. Infinite is a grand piece of storytelling, a story in which you discover yourself (Booker) and explore how your actions change Elizabeth and how ultimately Elizabeth changes you. With that idea at its core this is a game you are first and foremost meant to stop and smell the roses. The posters, propaganda, voxafones, enticing teases into quantum mechanics (albeit still very much so fantastical) all create such a depth and atmosphere really unseen in video games prior. These elements are what has given all the hype and whatnot.

For me the pinnacle of raw FPS adrenaline and pure gameplay would be a 64 player BF3 rush game. It doesn't get any more riveting than that. However if you try to simply only apply that particular attitude toward Bioshock Infinite, you will most certainly be deeply disappointed with the gameplay and disenchanted with all the hype that the game is experiencing.

Bioshock is an FPS by definition how ever it pretty much needs its own category.

So far I haven't gotten any of that here. Seems like a much more logical sane group of people. Complete and utter opposites.

I think I'm more blown away with the reaction I've received here than I am with the ending of this game! tongue.gif

This is why I have been liking OCN ever since I have joined up and started looking around the forums.

I actually came to this thread to see the opposing view since I hadn't heard anything but good things about this game. So this has me thinking it over again. To the comparison of Tomb Raider, that is interresting, and makes me glad that I went for TR first. I plan to just wait until BI hits a sale and will likely pick it up then (or if I can find a steam code for a really good price).

I think the negatives listed will affect people differently which I think comes down to how much one person likes a type of story telling over another. Also, people will tend to have different oppinions on what they feel constitutes a good story. The only thing I would ask is what difficulty you are playing the game through on. I have heard that to really experience great combat and have to think about what you are doing, rather than just a shooter on rails, you need to play it on Hard. Otherwise you will just mow down all the mobs and it will be just an experience for the story. Again, this is what I have heard, that there is a VAST difference in gameplay you get from normal to hard (not referring to 1999 mode... I mean just hard).

I think I will still pick up the game eventually, but this thread has given the cautionary tale that milage may vary.

Also, this game actually didn't rate as high as the original Bioshock. So technically, it should fall somewhere below the first one in how you perceive this game to be... just based on reviews. I think people were just so happy that it was not as bad as 2 was, that they maybe gave it higher reviews than it deserved? But again, the first game scored a bit higher overall.

I felt at times it was drawn out. I still really enjoyed the game, but at the end all I could think about was how much searching I did.
