Just beat Bioshock Infinite...am I the only one on the planet that thinks its over-hyped? - Page 4

Good to know, I'll be getting this game when it goes on sale then. I wasn't really into all the hype anyway and didn't even finish the first Bioshock and haven't even played the second.

I dunno, I got it for free with my video card, so I can't complain about having spent 60 bucks on it it. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I played it from beginning to end in eyefinity, and the aesthetic and art of the video game as well as the music really impressed me. That and how much thought went into the ending of the game.

I dunno about everyone else, but I felt a bit of an emotional tie to the characters. The game did drag on a little bit, but it, by far, is one of the best games I've played in years. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The tie in which it placed with the original bioshock as well as the thought provoking aspect of the multiple universes and reactionary events to the things Booker did really made me think a bit.
Obviously the game had a few shortcomings, but I think Infinite is very deserving of its 60 dollar price tag over something like Call of Duty.
That being said, everyone is going have a different opinion. It may have been overhyped, but since the game was released I had been playing it and avoiding much of the hype, and trying to stay away from articles and threads on it. I didn't need another videogame spoiled for me. tongue.gif

I actually came to this thread to see the opposing view since I hadn't heard anything but good things about this game. So this has me thinking it over again. To the comparison of Tomb Raider, that is interresting, and makes me glad that I went for TR first. I plan to just wait until BI hits a sale and will likely pick it up then (or if I can find a steam code for a really good price).

I think the negatives listed will affect people differently which I think comes down to how much one person likes a type of story telling over another. Also, people will tend to have different oppinions on what they feel constitutes a good story. The only thing I would ask is what difficulty you are playing the game through on. I have heard that to really experience great combat and have to think about what you are doing, rather than just a shooter on rails, you need to play it on Hard. Otherwise you will just mow down all the mobs and it will be just an experience for the story. Again, this is what I have heard, that there is a VAST difference in gameplay you get from normal to hard (not referring to 1999 mode... I mean just hard).

I think I will still pick up the game eventually, but this thread has given the cautionary tale that milage may vary.

Also, this game actually didn't rate as high as the original Bioshock. So technically, it should fall somewhere below the first one in how you perceive this game to be... just based on reviews. I think people were just so happy that it was not as bad as 2 was, that they maybe gave it higher reviews than it deserved? But again, the first game scored a bit higher overall.

I played it on hard and have to say I found it EXTREMELY easy. Maybe I'm a decent gamer or maybe the enemy A.I. is lacking (probably a little of both) but the game, for the most part, was a breeze. Only difficulty I kind of had was in the bigger battles (20+ enemies) but even then it wasn't what I would have considered challenging.

Again, different strokes for different folks, but over all I just ended up coming away from the game with a rather "meh" feeling. Not horrible at all, but not breath taking amazing either. I would say that the PC metacritic user reviews that hover in the 5-6 score range are, in my eyes, the more accurate ones. The game isn't at all bad, I do stress this point, but I can't find myself thinking it's a dang good game, let alone the best game ever made. I just simply don't see it. Near the last couple of hours I honestly just used a trainer so I could run through the game just to get through the story. Got tired of the tedious battle after battle after battle...

I have read multiple times that 1999 mode is much more challenging and can bring more depth to the game because of that, but I don't see myself replaying it anytime soon. I started playing Bioshock 1 again and can honestly say it's a much better experience over all.

Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread in a way and start arguments and what not, so I'll just leave it at this along with my other comments.

It was alright game to play through. It's one of those ''I had a good time playing it but forget about it after you''ve finished it'' games. Prob wont bother with 1999 mode.

I agree hard is not really hard at all. Pretty game, though!

Not at all, I wasn't trying to start anything since as stated haven't played it, was just trying to get the full picture of where you were coming from so I can better grasp what you were saying. Thanks for the input!

What I will say is that "average" games tend to get a 7-8, poor games 5-6, and games that just make people cry with how terrible they are get less than a 4. Its just the way the ratings work. Considering the games that are considered "average" these days, I would say that a 9+ might be a bit deserving. I think it is helpful to pay attention to what else it might be compared against, and what else has been released. You may be correct that it isn't deserving of the ratings it got, but I just wanted to explain a bit better of what the numbers on the rating system means... I agree that I wish it was more accurate to what something should be placed at, but it is the nature of the beast. I think actually reading through the reviews themselves and seeing what they say are the positives and negatives can be helpful, but it is still just the opinion of the writer and everyone will have different opinions about this game.

Rating in the game is really high. Only the best should be getting 9+. Something like Bioshock Infinite should in in the 7 zone.

Completely agree, i bought this game having high expectations, 2 hours in and everything was just so damn repetitive. The stories also really short, i finished the game on hard in under 10 hours

I been hearing that alot about this game. I loved it from the start to the end. I've beating it 3 times, starting with hard, the 1999 mode and finally easy. By far 1999 was the hardest to beat and at one point I had to restart a chapter to do it a different way.

Also, you shouldn't even had to use a trainer on hard. I like the fact that it was entertaining and challenging all the way through... You should really try it on 1999 mode without the trainer.

Kudos for a civil thread gentlemen ... I know sometimes it seems like Mod's are only around to come down on people, so I thought I'd take a moment to express my appreciation for a thread that's gone down just we like to see it happen thumb.gif

I, for one, am looking forward to picking this one up as soon as it goes on Steam sale. In the interim, I'm wrapping TR (which has been awesome) and doing like my 12th playthrough on BL2 ... but in UVHM for the first time. Cool stuff, although the drops so far haven't been anything special.

Some games are good when you see soneone else play them and you feel like if you take control you can do so much. I watched a Tomb Raider exclusive gameplay way before the game came out Oct 2012 and man i did not like it at all. I did not think its going to be good. Soy Bioshock Infinite and i was so pumped to play it. I got the opposite felling from the games. Tomb turned to amazing game. Bio into a average i might not even bother to finish it now.
