[CNN] Game of Thrones premiere sets piracy record - Page 10

All these US shows wouldn't get hammered so hard on torrents if they were available in the UK within a decent time frame imo

(I think GoT might have been the exception showing on Sky Atlantic the day after the US airing, normally it's 6-12 months, if a UK carrier decides to air it anyway. Also, I don't think I can get Atlantic on UK cable but there's no way in hell I'm going from 120Mb fibre to Skys ADSL speeds for one friggin' channel lol)

If HBO and the show doesn't see any legitimate increases...then we will have proof that the theory is a load of crap and people are just out to get free stuff. Some how I have a feeling the second episode will set the next record for pirating.

For any one with HBO...what is so good about the show? Is it related to the books or the game in anyway? Why was there so much interest?

Neither of your statements hold any water, whatsoever. Subscriptions trend, they don't go up and down instantly. Also, you're talking about people watching the shows during the year then buying DVD / BD when the season is finished and you can't track that this week.

There are plenty of marketing models that support word of mouth creating viewership, when you have viewers you have dollars. The dollars might not come instantly, but they will come.

The show is almost spot on to the books, which (baring the 4th book) are some of the best fantasy I have ever read. It is an impressive show in its own right and has an excellent cast, but the plot is true to the story and really enriches the Song of Ice and Fire universe. Most books converted to movies or shows are botched and lose the air of the story when being transferred to film, but not in this case. I would go so far as to say, for the budget it is as well done as The Lord of the Rings.

I use my Mom's HBO Go and Xfinity accounts to watch stuff like that.

If you know someone, like a parent, or something who has a subscription to HBO you can use their account with an Xbox, Roku or PC. Unless you're on Comcast, they make you verify through their website.
As to the above spoiler... here's a spoiler for your spoiler... YO DAWG

I'm mostly just surprised that so many people were still interested in Heroes by season three. Maybe they were still holding out hope that the Writer's Guild strike was to blame for season 2 sucking so bad.

A simple pay-per-episode subscription model for anyone out there would be super awesome. But naaah, that's too easy of a solution. And noo! it will hurt the cable companies... oh noez how dare we change!

If you want people to pay $0.99 per download, create a service that let's me download the episode in HD, make it accessible to everyone, and maybe you can make that scene.

I watched first season of Games of Thrones, and I didn't complete it. It is very boring.

Spartacus is far better in my opinion.

Spartacus might as well be the closest thing to soft-porno to ever air on TV. Not saying I hate that, but it's a bit overdone IMO.

Not sure that show would have gained the support it got if it wasn't for those scenes lol.

$0,.99 for HD episode that I can keep on my system indefinitely and we're talking.

The sad thing is that the subscription on HBO online in denmark binds you for 6 months :S

the show is carbon copy of books, and script is mostly done by the author himself, who is a hollywood oldtimer and producer of beaty and beast movie or serie from 80s
show is about intrigues, business and politics set in fantasy land with magic/dragons/zombies(but not many). basically it has everything one could wish for

now to other issue. i will cite someone from torrentfreak comments
"I find it strange that a man in japan is in danger of getting 10 years for downloading a song from michael jackson, while the man who actually killed him got 3-4years. shows us that law is there to protect companies and not people"
(hint Japanese politicians have passed such law and have already arrested 29 people)"

best
