Coolmax ZU-900B 900W Modular ATX Power Supply?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, Im looking for a new PSU (my trusty CX600 cant handle my xfire setup AND my OC'd 8320) I found this one here:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/407835/ZU-900B_900W_Modular_ATX_Power_Supply

Im kind of suspicious of it, I have never heard of Coolmax before. Do they make crap throwaway PSU's like Diablotek? If it is a good brand however that is a steal! Other wise can you reccommed a PSU 100 or under for my setup?

You're basically playing russian roulette with coolmax supplies. Some of them are pretty decent, the rest are pretty bad. You'd be better off buying something that you can almost guarantee will give you the performance you want smile.gif

Maybe something like this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116016

I second the warning against any PSU by Coolmax.

Instead, I'd recommend something like the XFX Core Edition PRO 850w. It's $111 shipped after $15 MIR @ Newegg. It's OEM'd by Seasonic, and certainly is a reliable cost-effective unit.

Wait a sec, OC'd FX-8320 (on a Hyper 212, so not really really high voltages and clocks I'm assuming) and Crossfire HD 6850s? Depends on the OC, but you're probably not topping 250W on the 8320 and each HD 6850 is what, like 130W max in a stress test (non-OC)? You should be able to run that on a CX600, though on the edge of its capability if you're really doing a full CPU + GPU load, which never happens outside of stress tests.

Anyway, over 650W is not necessary and 850W certainly is not. Might as well look more at 650W-750W. Uh, and looking at the above suggestions, I don't think people are taking the $100 and under seriously.

If you're really fast and can get this (promo ends 4/2), Rosewill Capstone 750-M is available for around $86:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182264

650W version would be okay, goes for $90 before $15 rebate:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182263

These power supplies are a little better than the NZXT Hale82-M and XFX Core Pro linked above, which both happen to be using the same solid Seasonic design.

If you have to get something from Microcenter for whatever reason, there's the Thermaltake Smart-M 750W for $100 before $20 rebate. It's also pretty good.

Yeah, that'll work. It's based on Channel Well's "PUQ" platform, so I don't see any problems.
