Portable tablet for school (Looking at Nexus 7)

I'm looking into buying a portable tablet for school to replace my laptop (completely). I've pretty much settled on 7", I think it's a great size and I'm pretty it will fit in some of my pockets even.

Budget: $300 NOT including keyboard + case
What I'm looking for:
7" (more or less)
Android (will consider windows)
Good multitasking
Mainly for light word/powerpoint/excel work
Web browsing/youtube and music
Movies

I''m seriously considering the Nexus 7. I have the Galaxy Nexus phone and it's by far the greatest piece of technology I've ever owned, absolutely love it and use it all the time, just not really practical for documents at school.

However I haven't really looked too much into any other tablet so I'm obviously open for suggestion. How does the SmartQ X7 compare with the Nexus 7? I know it has a slower processor but 2GB of RAM sounds good for multitasking which I seem to do a lot of. And in particular when I'm web browsing, everyone always comments on how many tabs I have open tongue.gif

EDIT: Another thing with my phone is that I don't have a case (or screen protector) on it and I would love if I didn't have to have a case on the tablet all the time either. I'm not sure how it works with keyboards if there are any that sort of clip onto the tablet? I just really think a case for protection is unnecessary and does nothing but add bulk

EDIT: I'm also going to be installing a custom ROM on it

I have a nexus 7 and absolutely love it so far. For something like a tablet I think cases are great accessories, not for protection necessarily but for the built in stand they can provide. I use the Blurex ultra slim case and adds very little bulk and feels a little cheap but increases the protection of the device as well as provides a sturdy stand.

One thing to note about the nexus 7 is that it doesn't use gorilla glass like many phones do, that is what I am told anyways. Some people had problems where the oleophobic layer of the glass started to come off so the screen starts to look like a badly applied screen protector. For this reason I would recommend to get a screen protector even if it is like a 3 dollar one from amazon.

Sorry if this isn't the most coherent post, I am using the mobile version of the website and can't type well on a tablet yet.
