Is it a good deal? And is this the best RAM out there for 4 x 2gb in terms of speed, latency? And doesn't this go on sale regularly at this price? Is it a good sale? Thanks!

To answer your question this ram is super average, and I don't really think this is a good deal at all. My experience with Corsair ram is the timings do not like to be dropped any lower either.
Code:
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 9-9-9-24

This is actually 2 x 4GB, which is better. This is most definitely not the best RAM out there, but better sticks are generally way more expensive (Samsung WonderRAM is probably the best you can get for the price under $100, but it's OOS at a lot of places).

RAM has increased in price recently, and a lot of 1600MHz sticks have shot up to $60. This is still good value.

It's a good value, but not a really a deal. These ram sticks have been at this prices for a few months now. I want to buy them personally, but I have bigger computer needs that take priority.

I'll probably get this. It's pretty good deal for 47 bucks. Any of you suggest a good motherboard for this? for under or at $200? Any alternatives to MPOWER? As I've read it does have reports of smoke and components burning up.

What kind of price do you think is a good deal for ram?

Sometimes Newegg leaves the info off the modules on the pics and you can get an idea of what ICs are being used by Corsair. The above pic shows "ver8.16" which denotes a Nanya IC per the info posted in the Corsair forums.

http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68811

Nanya, Elpida and PSC based 2x4GB modules are the "average" ICs, typically with little, if any, overclocking headroom and are intended to be used in systems which are not going to be tweaked very much. These are typically rated at 9-9-9 with 1.5v. There is nothing wrong with them, they are simply not high-end performance ram.

The higher end Corsair products will use Hynix CFR (ver5.12) or Samsung HCH9 (ver4.13). Some older products used Hynix BFR (ver5.11).

As a comparison, this product has been shipping with Samsung chips (ver4.13), and in spite of some of those Newegg reviews, works just fine. Now priced at $90 per 2x4GB kit, it was recently on sale for $60.

This is an example confirming the earlier comment about ram prices going up. Today's Shellshocker could have been found for around $30-$35 just as recently as 3-4 months ago. The 2133 kit, now $90, was $70 for the longest time.

Edit:
Just saw that GuardianDuo just posted up a deal on some Patriots, which would also be a good buy for someone just wanting some basic ram...

Got these guys for sale at $35 but that was about a year ago. Either RAM prices are going up or this isn't as good a deal.
