Memory Problems

Thread Starter
Hi, long time lurker finally had to ask a question

I just upgraded from two old sticks of infineon 256MB ddr333 to a single stick of Crucial Ballistix 512 ddr400. The only option I get with standard settings on my fsb/agp/pci settings is for the ram to boot @ 166mhz. I can underclock the fsb and change the divider settings and the option for 200mhz will open up, however, if I run the board @ stock setting or higher, the options return to 166mhz or spd. Is there a workaround for this that anyone knows of, or am I just completely missing the obvious?

and, one other small question, I have a copy of everest home edition and I use soyo hardware monitor, they give me conflicting temperature readings on my cpu, which should I trust?

Well I know that if you have an Auto Overclock Feature enabled in your BIOS it can cause this...Disable anything on auto and have it set to manual.

Enterprise has got the first part down for you.

AS for your temps, how far off are they really? More than 3C?

VIA chipsets are notorious for being bad overclockers, I have an old MSI thats is a kt400 as well, I managed to get the thing oc'ed but the pci's wern't locked or anything.
I have no idea why you settings aren't staying other than you may not be saving the before exit in the bios.
As for the temps I would use the one that came with the mobo

mmkay, although the bios DOES have an auto oc feature, it leads to an inevitable CMOS reset, I can't even get it to post using that. Everything is set to manual that pertains to this, and I do save my setting before exiting. The option for a 200mhz clock on the memory simply is not there unless the processor is underclocked....

and the temps, soyo reports 34 at idle, around 39 at load, everest reports anywhere from 32 to 60, that's why i was getting worried about it, and thanks for the advice on that problem
