[Amazon] Patriot Venom Red 2x4GB 1866MHz C9 | $48

Capacity: 8GB (2X4GB) Kit
Voltage: 1.5V
Frequency: 1866MHz
Timings: 9-10-9-27

Seems to be a steal in the current DDR3 market. Most 2x4GB kits are in the $60s now, and for only 1600MHz. I bought some yesterday.

"Usually ships within 1 to 3 months."
Probably out of stock now.

Is this better than the shell shocker deal that was on newegg for $47?

1866MHz vs 1600MHz for an extra dollar, I'd say so.
Also, I get taxed by Newegg, so Amazon generally is a better deal for me.

These seem to be out of stock, though.

I remember itching about spending $30 on RAM [2x4GB]. I miss the good ole days (3 months ago).

What RAM ICs are on this ram? I mean if this is just micron d9 or some crap hynix why would you buy this ram? Manufacturer rating is so far off on what the ram is capable of, it seems to me, companies often just sell the exact same ram at 3 different clocks for 3 different prices.

Why would you buy this over the samsung wonder ram which can overclock much further and is only like $45? Or why not spend ~$50-60 for 4x2GB of PSC which can do 2400mhz CL8 easily?

Have ram prices gone up? I feel like im missing something, why is this a good deal?

Spec sheet for this RAM: http://www.patriotmemory.com/product/specs/PV38G186C9KRD.pdf

FYI, Samsung WonderRAM has been sold out for about the last 3-6 months. It's out of stock virtually everywhere, and when it comes back, it's usually on the order of $30-40 per 4GB stick. Currently OOS on Amazon, Newegg, and NCIX. Maybe you can find some used WonderRAM on eBay for somewhere near this price.

And, in general, RAM prices have been up for the past few weeks. I wouldn't say this is a terrific deal, but it's an awesome price for an 1866 kit given recent pricing. The standard Vengeance kit has been coming near this price recently, but that's only a 1600 kit that almost never moves off the factory speeds/timings. If you can find an 8GB PSC kit for $50 (near this price), the constructive thing would be to link it and mention why it's superior. Doing a quick peripheral search, I see no such deals available.
