They could, but like you said that's one hell of a wait even if everything goes well. I would be quite interested in such a card but unless Moustache is a Zen buddhist, it's too much time without a graphics card. tongue.gif

So do you guys think that I should get a GTX 680 now? And if GTX 780 comes out, should I skip it and continue with my GTX 680?

Right now, I only scared of regretting my purchase. You see, the price of GTX 680 and 780 will be the same but the performance of 780 will be better. Don't you guys think it will be a waste of money? Beside, if I wait, I may have to wait for a long time because no one knows when it will be released. Damn Nvidia!

Your choice is simple. Pay the money now and enjoy your card, or wait for the GTX 700 series and suffer until then. No matter what you buy today, there's always going to be a faster and/or cheaper solution next year.

The GTX 680 is 5-10% more performance than a GTX 670, but costs 20% more money. Don't let others tell you that you're wasting your money by getting a 680 - there has (and always will be) a price premium for the top card in the series, and that won't change with the 770/780 whenever it arrives. People are going to tell you that the future 780 is a waste and buy a 770. LOL.

Get a 7970 at least you will have 3GB memory.

670 will oc to a 680

680 will oc ...

I cannot see 780 coming soon and if, it will not be that much faster because will upset the mighty titan thumb.gif
post #15 of 35
The GTX 780 will probably not be a huge jump from the GTX 680 because :
1)It's just a refresh of Kepler
2)If it's much better than the 680 then it'd hurt their Titan sales most likely.
Just my 2 cents, I could be wrong.

Personally I'd go for a 670 as the price premium for the 680 isn't really worth it. Yes, there's always a premium for the top-end cards as Hammong said, but at least with Fermi the *80 cards had better VRMs, more VRAM, wider memory bus, and more SMX units. With Kepler, the 680 has one more SMX unit and that's it. All other specs are the same (except stock clock speed, but from what I"ve seen 670s tend to overclock to higher frequencies than 680s).

Waiting for hardware only really makes sense if you know the hardware will be released in a month or two. Otherwise, you'll be waiting forever because there will always be something better on the market within at most a year after your purchase.

So my advice would be to get a 670 (or an AMD card if you don't mind them) and skip the 700 series as it most likely won't offer much improvement over 600 series, since it has to be slower than Titan if nVidia wants to avoid pissing off their enthousiast costumers.

I'm in the same boat stuck with a couple 570's. I wonder if its better to sell them off now while there still kinda worth something and grab a couple 680's. Or wait for the 7 series and get next to nothing for the 570's. Hard to tell if there going to be that much better

And of course the GTX 780 is 20-25% more powerful than the GTX 680. I might regret the whole thing. What do you think folks? I would like to hear some of the 680s' users opinion regarding this matter. What would you do?

There is not GTX780 coming anytime soon. I don't know if Nvidia will even name their next high end gpu that or go in a different direction.

In any case I don't think we will be seeing Nvidia's next gpu until 2014, so feel confident in buying that GTX680. Or of course you could check out the 7970...
