[GameInformer] Disney Closes Game Publisher LucasArts - Page 7

This was a smart move by Disney, and will actually be better for the players and fans in the long run.

LucasArts hasn't been able to produce a quality Star Wars game in, well, "forever" by gaming standards. George Lucas was also ridiculous with licensing of the Star Wars name, which really shut out a lot of studios that might have been able to do something awesome with it. Now that this has happen, and it is being moved to a Licensed product, we should actually start to see quality Star Wars content come out..

It was really stupid for Lucas to keep the SW brand so locked down, it is just too large to be taken care of like that.

Alright, my point about Star Wars and Biowares comfort zone wasn't about lore. Battlefront never had a story anyway. Most people just played sandbox matches or online.

My point was about combat. Mass Effect is a much better... and I mean much much better TPS than battlefront ever was. Battlefront is actually quite awful combat wise. It aged horribly. Its why I never re-bought BF2 on the PC, even if the PS2 version lagged like a truck. Adding the modern Mass Effect combat style to the large scale-ness of Battlefront would be amazing. Without the stupid OP juggernaut hero summons that was awful in BF2.

Another game that I thought of that also aged horribly was Republic Commando... Replaying that I didn't last longer than it took to install.

I agree with this. Let's let some good studios get their hands on the Star Wars name and run with it.

Wow....This left a bad taste in the mouth. On a side note I hope there's a team of developers who really enjoyed the Jedi Knight series, maybe we'll see a spiritual successor

EDIT: after reading more than the first page, it appears the "cancelled" games can be picked it up for a price. Which is awesome because 1313 looked incredible, what a waste that would be.

Wow. I was looking forward to battlefront 3 so much. They have to be some of my favourite games of all time. I'm not necessarily a star wars fan but this really sucks.

I can tell you I would not buy that game. It wouldnt be a battelfront game and wouldnt feel like one with that combat and those mechanics.

I want a true sequel to Batlefront 2.

You said Star Wars isn't exactly outside of BW's comfort zone. The only SW games they've done haven't had realtime combat unless you count the terrible space gameplay of SWTOR, so how were you not talking lore?

Battlefront has always been about huge armies and lots of action and death. Contrast that to Mass Effect's combat where not dying is more important than killing. That's completely neglecting how Bioware has yet to do vehicles well, but it's a major component of Battlefront. It's like saying dessert pizzas used to be good, but Lemon Meringue is awesome, so they should make a lemon meringue pizza. You'd have to violate core components of each to have something that is both, or you'd just end up with one of the two named as if it were both.

A battlefront game that isn't arcady and fast-paced is a battlefront game in name alone. Lost Planet-like gameplay would serve Battlefront far better than Mass Effect would.

Seems like no one ever read what they said. They will be licensing out the Star Wars franchise to other game developers. Which I think is a good thing.
