Steam and other applications not working off of desktop?

]When I first built my PC I only had an ssd, but when I got a HDD I transferred all of my steam files to the HDD. But when I click on the desktop shortcut it just starts downloading steam right onto the desktop and saving it on my ssd... I deleted the shortcut and made a new one from the D drive but it keeps doing that. Am I doing something wrong?

It happens with league of legends also, it won't open if I click the shortcut I put on the desktop but it will open if I open up the exact folder and click it.

What do you mean by "transferred"? Merely copying+pasting your entire Steam folder to the new drive isn't going to work. The install path is put into the registry so it still thinks Steam is on your old drive and then when it tries to find the files and doesn't, it starts to redownload.

Not sure why LoL wont' work. I've been able to copy+paste that in my experience.

I transferred steam using the way they show on the website :https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129
Is that not the right way?

Oh never mind, it works if I make a shortcut not if I only copy and paste the original.
