ASUS HD 7970 DirectCU II - Overclock

Just got myself a new HD 7970.

Firstly I tried the ASUS GPU tweak Is it's an asus card assumed it may have better results.
Bumping the mhz by 25 each time, (Default 1000) at anything above 30 it freezes my screen and flickers (Like it does when display drivers crash)
So then I tried MSI Afterburner, wacked the Power Limit to 20% and still, anything past 1030 does the same thing.

I have a ToughPower XT 875 watt PSU and I know this card should be able to take a ****load more.. Is 30mhz really all I can get out of this thing?

It's peeking at 58C with around 25-27C ambient. I heard these things can handle 85C, the fans aren't even hitting 30%. (maxing at 24-26).

Is it a bad card?

Should I try different drivers? Using 13.1 atm

It really is a lottery when buying a GPU. Personally, I wouldn't settle for anything less then maxing the sliders in CCC (1125/1575 I believe).

You can play with voltage and see if that helps or try different drivers. If all else fails then RMA it.

Edit: If you have a spare PSU I'd give that a wack just to see what comes of it. Maybe swap out power cables and make sure everything is connected properly.

Same crash occured using CCC when going above +30mhz with power control on +20%
It cant be a heat issue its not going above 50C before it flickers, but seems fine at 1030.
I haven't touched the memory clock yet.
Was expecting more from such an expensive card with so many "Overclocking" promises, I need a hug lol

Now go return it, if still able to, and get a better one thumb.gif.

There's a better one? Or did you just mean one that isn't faulty?

I got the TOP Edition, for $549

The Gigabyte one is voltaged locked so it could be a deal breaker for you, the rest are reference cards besides the Asus cards. If a voltage lock card isnt a problem for you then grab the Gigabyte card, if it is get another Asus card.
