Intel Burn Test, Prime95, on my stock 8350

Hey guys back again, still not satisfied with the performance of my 8350, and looking for answers...

I just recently made a thread about Prime95 on the 8350, and the temperatures I was seeing that had me worried. Now I've included IBT in the test, and only more questions from it.

Number one, big issue here...

Applications crashing during IBT - I'm running 1 pass of IBT on my 8350 for troubleshooting purposes. My BIOS settings are set to defaults, except Cool N Quiet always disabled. Again, everything else default, which is mostly auto, on voltages and clocks. First of all, one by one after IBT was started (maximum, all threads), some programs began to freeze and crash. First was the Asus AI Suite, the software asus gives you for monitoring your CPU and MB, then also EVGA precision x, and ultramon. These three programs all locked up and crashed... though Windows, HWmonitor, CPU-Z, the Task Manager, and IBT itself, have not locked up or crashed. What does this mean? Is my CPU unstable, or are those programs just unsuited for dealing with the stress of IBT? That's sounding like an excuse to me, and I don't like just accepting that, so I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

Next, as IBT is running, CPU-Z is showing my Core speed to fluctuate between 4113Mhz and 3400Mhz. Is this just throttling due to the default BIOS settings I'm using?

PS. Intel Burn Test, that all this happened during, just passed without errors.

When I'm running IBT on my platform (almost) everything slows down/crashes. I can't really give you advice on the matter. "Don't do anything and let the test run its course" is the best advice I can give you..... but that is just only my experience.

[EDIT] Your PS is overkill. wink.gif

Thanks boot, that's really what I wanted to hear...

no, I've turned Turbo off, and messed with a few other settings as well. I'll update later today.

There is a setting in the BIOS, I cant remember what its called exactly but its something like thermal limit. Make sure its set to the highest which should be 140%.
