8800gtx causes instant computer shutdown

Thread Starter
So I'm building a pc for my mom using mostly parts I have laying around and I've hit a wall.
I try to put my brothers 8800gtx in and after 3 seconds the video cards fan kicks on and it immediately shuts down.
It works fine with an old 6450 I have laying around, so my thinking is its either the video card or PSU. However the video card works in an old tower I have laying around. Any help would be much appreciated.
Specs are-
Biostar n68s3+ mobo
AMD phenom ii x3 720
4gb corsair ddr31600 running at 1300
750gb WD Caviar
Asus 8800gtx 768mb
1050w PSU(dont know brand name but can find out if its important)

Thanks!

PS: I looked for a technical help section relating to my issue but couldn't find it. Mods please move if in the wrong place.

swap the GPU and PSU into another system to see if they both work.

The psu came from my brothers old build from 08 that reportedly would restart constantly for 20 mins+ before starting up and crashed frequently. It worked in combination with this same 8800gtx on my other brothers build from 09 so I assumed I had ruled out the psu failing being an issue.
I'll swap them back into it tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Another question, will a 400w cooler master PSU power this 8800gtx with my current specs?

Thanks!

Probably would be fine (cooler master)

I should have clarified earlier to test the GPU and PSU in another system independently if that was not already obvious.

Narrowed it down to the PSU, was having major issues in another computer.
I am now using the CM 400watt.
I'll have to get a molex to 6 pin pci-e adapter as this psu only has one 6 pin plug.
The psu reads 16A under +12v1. How big of a chance will there be that something will break if I try to use the 8800gtx?
If there is a fairly good chance then I can just wait a week or two to buy a newer less power hungry card.

Thanks for all your help.

So the 12v rail is around 192 watts. I do not think anything would "break", rather it would shut down or not work properly.

My old system had a 450 watt supply and I used a 9600GT with it for years, without doing the math you should be OK for a few weeks.
