Check the build i sugested, if he just get one screen , he can buy a top of the line professional vga .
The difference between the professional editing cards and the non-professional editing cards, is just the name and PCB. The chips and clocks are exactly the same.

There's no "Operton" or "Xeon" of GPU's, the closest you'll get is by getting an ES of them (with unlocked multiplier! LOL, sorry, couldn't resist)

Agreed.

And the 8800GTX will probably outperform the Quadro and FireGL, not because the 8800 is DX10, but because it's just an insanely powerful card. Do remember that it outperforms anything right now on the market (including SLI 79xx's and Crossfire X19xx's). That power has NOTHING to do with DX10. All benchies I have seen are under XP, and thus not tapping into DX10!

He wants an AMD guys.....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 Windsor 2.6GHZ
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe ATX AM2 Nforce 590 SLI 2PCI-E16 1PCI-E4

2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S
2 x Samsung SyncMaster 225BW HAS 22IN Widescreen LCD
2 x EVGA E-GEFORCE 7950 GT KO 560MHZ PCI-E 512MB 1.45GHZ GDDR3
Swiftech H20-220 Apex ULTRA+ Complete System Liquid Cooling Kit

Shipping & Handling: $63.41
Shipping Insurance: $77.24
Subtotal: $2,715.29
GST(6%): $162.92
YOUR TOTAL: $2,878.21
USD

You get the case....keyboard...and mice ( graphic design sometimes demands 2 ) and you're set. HOWEVER...If you are DEEP into that stuff...I have a suggestion.

A Tablet. REALLY helps when editing photos as you can DRAW rather that use a mouse Wacom TABLET, INTUOS 3 6X8 USB, DUAL

Lets guess arounf 350 + taxes n shipping so another 500$ added to the price above.

Good?

No taxes in the US when you buy from an out of state online vendor. Do account for $300 shipping.

I did suggest an AMD alternative for the Core 2 Duo rig I composed. However, this is not a good idea, since performance will be less. The QX6700 is the best right now for this work, and will beat anything AMD has by quite a margin. If you go AMD, go Opteron, like I suggested earlier.

Drop one video card. He does not need two, unless he hooks up one monitor per card. However, I'd settle for a single 8800GTX.

Regarding monitor: either 20" or 24". 22" has the same resolution as 20" has, and results in larger pixels without gains. Thus, I'd prefer 20" over 22". 24" is the next step up in resolution.

The Tablet is a good idea though!

WOW guys, thanks for the ideas.

Where to start.....Yes it has to be AMD, Ive been true to them for longer than I can remember. I'm not hell bent on the 5200 as I'm waiting for the new quad cores.....I can wait.....impatiently but can wait. For the mobo I believe I'm gonna wait on that also, aren't the new quads socket 1027? What memory will they take?

As of now, regardless of the now quad core and mobo this is what I'm thinking

AM2 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB.
Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP.
Storage Hard Drives: (2)Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB.
System Drive: Seagate Cheetah 10K.7 ST373207LW 74GB 10,000 RPM.
Monitors: (2) Hanns·G HW-192DJB Gloss Black 19" 5ms DVI Wide screen
Video Card: (2) eVGA 512-P2-N637-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP KO.
Liquid Cooling: Swiftech H20-220 APEX ULTRA

Of coarse there are other odds-n-ends and a few things may change when the new procs are out.

Intel is the way to go right now trust Chozart he wouldnt lead you the wrong way it is your money but i want the most performance for my money and that is Intel for the moment.

The new AMD true quad cores won't be out until late 07, if you want to wait a year go ahead, and as for the 4x4, you would be lucky to get it even with your budget
