GTX 570 to HD 7970 Ghz worth it?

Hi all

I am contemplating upgrading my gtx 570 to a 7970 ghz card. The 7970s are very expensive here (Cheapest is $500/£330), so I would need ot know that it can last and isnt going to be heavily beaten by the next best gpu thats out in 6 months time. My gtx 570 only has 1.25GB VRAM, and Im noticing more often than not its out of vram. On killing floor for instance its using all 1.25gb!

Ive also just seen that the ATI cards are now good at folding which is a bonus too. My questions are:

1. Is it worth upgrading gtx 570 to 7970 ghz considering how expensive it is? I game at 1920x1080.
2. If so which brand should I go with? The cheapest one is VTX3D which is $500, the gigabyte ghz is $600, the Sapphire vapor x 6GB is like $700+.

thanks

Oh I forgot, I play BF3, killing floor, CS;Source, LFD2.

I would wait it out... Performance different isn't worth it.

I would be waiting for the next generation of cards unless you feel you absolutely must have more performance right now which is not probably not the case with a 570 at 1080p. The 7970 is getting tempting right now but only for it's low price (in the U.S.) and it's awesome game bundles not so much for it's performance (IMO at least), so if the price isn't attractive in your area then I would wait. smile.gif

if you're sticking to a single monitor at 1080, wait it out. the 570 is still a fairly powerful card at that resolution. only reason to upgrade asap is if you want to play in a multimonitor setup or at a higher resolution.

"On killing floor for instance its using all 1.25gb!"

No.... just no.... it is memory allocation because your card can store more info in the Vram, it does not need more than roughly 600mb with maxed AA. (Source game)

Get a 7950 and OC it to 1.2Ghz, you'll match a 7970 GHz Edition and beat a GTX 680 in the process. thumb.gif

(IMHO) NO!..

but if you can find 2nd hand HD7950 for cheap price

Then YES!

don't go 7970

Have you thought about grabbing another GTX 570 (very cheap now) and going SLI. I game at 1080p and love my SLI setup. I have been contemplating the same thing you are for a very long time but thought I'd wait to see what the next gen cards bring to the table.

I had thought about this until i realised sli does not mean double vram amount. Bf3 is vram hungry
