Overclocking an E6300 on a P5B Deluxe

Thread Starter
I've been obsessing about this set up for the past few days and finally decided it would be good to find a forum that revolved around this sort of thing to help me make some decisions and eventually overclock. I'm Kyle, nice to meet ya.

I've been reading about todd258's success with this combo at 3.4 ghz so i'm itching for the same results.

I already purchased the E6300 OEM and I plan to use a ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro with it. I also plan to get the P5B Deluxe from new egg for $182.

Current List Of Parts:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe
EVGA 7900GT KO
Asus P5B Deluxe Mobo (What's the difference between the P5B Deluxe and P5B Deluxe Wifi/AP?)
OCZ Modstream 520W PSU
RAM: ?
Case: ?

My main issue right now is RAM. I looked into the 10th Anniversary Crucial 2GB kit but I can't find any online retailers with it in stock. (Via pricegrabber, froogle, pricewatch, googling)
Initially, I was planning to overclock with a Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 PC2-6400 2GB kit but according to I think Chozart, it's usually hit or miss. I don't plan on taking any risks. I'm pretty tight for cash but I won't skimp out and get crappy results.

When everything comes in i'll probably be coming here often for guidance :')
This place looks great :3

(Also: I'm looking for a computer case that's quiet/silent and cheap. I was looking into the Antec Sonata II but the cheap door hinges and cramped space really turned me off. If anyone knows of a good case that would go well with this set up let me know)

If you're gonna be overclocking i sugest the G Skill 1GB DDR2 800 CAS3 kit for 250$ on newegg.
It's CAS 3 wich is very , very low.
G.Skill doesn't have any DDR2 800 CAS3 for $250. CAS 3 800 usually runs well over $400.

For RAM? Well, as usual the G.Skill DDR2 800 is out of stock again!

So I'd say the fallowing RAM should be a great choice:
http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-44410-800mhz-p-1645.html Xtreem DDR2 800 for $305.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146563 Crucial DDR2 1000 for $310

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820609026 SuperTalent DDR2 800 for $280

Then there's the PATRIOT but I'm still not 100% sure about this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220144 $245 AMIR for the kit.

For Cases, it's better to have a Full Tower than a Mid Tower IMO. Air-Flow in a Full Tower is more efficient.

i pretty much got the same setup. besides the cooling. im still on stock cooling. gonna go water soon. but yea, def buy some good ram. my ram is holding me back a bit with the overclocking.

as for the crucial anniversary.. they are no longer available anymore. i wanted the same ram before, but now its a no go.

i recommend... G.Skill's with the black heat spread, some say buffalo firestix are good, or the team xtreme ones are good. all D9 micron chips. a lot of others are unstable. i got the OCZ SOE its not that great, in my opinon.. maybe i havent opened it up the right way yet.

I'd say go for the Firestix.

That G.Skill RAM you linked.. I don't know what ICs it contains. However, the Firestix contain Micron D9 chips, which are the best for overclocking, and they could reach 500MHz+, which would give you a ~3.5ghz clockspeed on your CPU

Of course, it all depends on your cooling, and whether you get a good CPU week

I see. Can you tell me more about cooling?
I have an Arctic Freezer 7 for my PSU and these are the fan details for my aluminum case: Fan: 12 cm ball bearing fans x 1; 8 cm ball bearing fan x 2; 12 cm VGA cooler x 1, Air Duct for CPU x 1, Air Duct for PSU fan x 1

As for memory, I'm leaning toward the Super Talent RAM Nazgul linked. Mmm.
