Santa's On His Way... [New Build]

Thread Starter
Ok so instead of upgrading my AGP card to another AGP card I have aquired some money and this is the build I'm looking at, hopefully use some of my existing equipment for it:

- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.60GHz (Socket AM2)
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
- Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel

Current PSU is a OCZ Powerstream 520w, says minimum for the 8800gts is 500w but 600w is recommended, I'm hoping the pne I've got will juice it ok. A question about the board, for the moment, would I be able to run normal DDR ram instead of DDR2, just for the time being to save a bit of money?

Your thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated...

Dan

Also...the modstream DOES in fact power the 8800GTS just fine. Although it's NOT a wise idea to run that as a permanent thing. You can use it for a month or two but UPGRADE ASAP!!!!

Sorry NO DDR1 RAM wont work in that DDR2 motherboard.

Thats a very Nice build however i would consider Getting a stronger PSU...However saying that the PSU you do have is fine for your system But you could get a dedicated GPU PSU for just your DX10 card.

The 520 Powerstream should run the vga card as long as you dont have multiple optical drives, hard drives, accesories, etc....
A high cpu and ram oc may tax the psu a bit but the OCZ is no slouch, yet is a few years outdated.

Ok thanks for info on the ram issue. PSU wise, I can disconnect one DVD ROM as I don't use it anyway, I have 2 Hard Drives and really need them both so aslong as I could run the system stable for a few months then I'd be happy. Once I shell a bit more out for PSU, well, LET THE OC'in BEGIN!

I have a Powerstream, If I remember, the modstream was a lesser model of the Powerstream.

Reverse The ModStream has an option the PowerStream doesn't.
