I'm afraid that there is no so-called "i5-3570K killer" in AMD's arsenal. The closest analogue would be the FX-8350, but it loses to the i5 in all but the most heavily-threaded scenarios.

AMD's current top bid against a 3570k would be the FX-8350. But grabbing the FX-8320, which is basically the same CPU in all but name, would be a smarter choice price-wise. Both are pretty much equally overclockable and therefore just about equally competitive.

Nothing on AMD's side is a real i5 killer. AMD's current 8350 struggles to keep up with it and for the money I would just go with the i5 or wait till AMD releases there new AM3+ CPU this year.

Not to derail but there is going to be a new AM3+ chip out this year? Last I'd heard, it was 8320/50 until Steamroller next year. Did I miss something?

^^This...

FX-8350 beats in some heavy threaded games like Crysis 3 to the i5-3570K, but in the 99% of games i5 is best for gaming...

Actually the difference between a 8350 and an i5 in gaming is marginal:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1333027/amd-fx-8350-vs-i5-3570k-delidded-single-gpu-and-crossfire-gpu

The amd is looking like the better processor for modern gaming, like the above post said crysis 3 but also Battlefield 3, realistically games will continue to evolve and games will start to use 8 cores plus making a 8350/8320 a better long term investment. Those who say games will only use 4 cores are the same that said dual cores were enough back in the day.

If I were building a new rig now, I would get a 8350 or 8320, If I had extra money lying around I would get a 3770k because the Hyperthreading is being utilised now in gaming which technically makes it an 8 core processor which makes it a 8350 beater again.

So op in answer to your question a 8350 is the best am3+ processor and it will make you very happy! thumb.gif

Too bad. Got my hopes up there for a second. I always thought they'd come out with a Piledriver refresh and am shocked that they're not going to.

9370/9590. 9370 should exceed the performance of a 8350 10-15%. Used with something like Asus ROG-Z, Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 and M5A99FX Pro R2.0 should be able to handle the 220 watts @ stock speeds. Higher constant OC 5.0 Ghz may be possible. The 9590 base speed is 5,0 Ghz When used with a r9 series amd card should be able to any game. I tried running my 8350 with a Corsair A70. It did well, but only @ stock speed. It started to d thermal runaway at 4.50 Ghz when stressed. You will need something a lot better than a Water 2.0 which is good enough for constant 4.5 GHz @50-55C use. I am happy with a Sabertooth r1 & a gigabyte Windforce 7870 @1150 OC 1250 memory clock.

Noctua NH-U14S, no it does not = Water 2.0. It is close to an A70 and not worth changing to it for a -0.5C change. It also does not remove heat from the case like a water cooler does. A case with 140mm fans & 140mm water cooler should be good enough for decent game play for now & into the future.
