26 gauge sheet metal for side panel

Hello, awesome forums been reading some very interesting stuff on here.

I am new to modding and I would like to ask a basic questions:

I have very little resources for buy metal sheet here other than from Home & Hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot. I went to check out their stuff and they have metal sheets 26 gauge, 36" x 24". I was wondering if this is` ideal compared to 16-20 gauge? What is the ideal metal thickness? can I build with 26 gauge?

Yeah I would say go with something a bit thicker. I use 1.58mm thick aluminum which is pretty strong. I would go with the 20 gauge/ .98mm stuff if you can get it. You can always try a scrap yard. It will be a little more work but much cheaper.

I honestly think that just finding an old case and modifying it is better... with paint/acrylic glass/new front panel `shaped to size

An old case would definitely be a good starting point. Even if it is just so you can have the frame, that gives you a base to start from.
