Looking for headset advice

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
I currently have a Logitech G35 and I'm considering moving up to something a little better. I know that OCN tends to support actual headphones with a clip-on mic, but I much prefer a mic boom that I can lift/lower when I want, so I'd like to ask for advice concerning headsets with that feature and was wondering if anyone can make some product recommendations.

Features I know I want: Mic boom, closed ear (as much isolation from outside noise as possible), sub-$300 price range. Microphone quality isn't THAT important to me - not looking to be a singer or anything, just need to be clearly understandable when chatting casually. Some level of noise cancelling on the mic would be nice as I have a mechanical keyboard. My headset's function would probably be ~60% gaming/Skype and 40% media. The Sennheiser PC360 looked like a great buy to me until I saw that it is an open-back headset. Are there any closed-back headsets similar to the PC360 in quality/price?

Maybe i'm wrong but the PC350 is the same but with a more closed design. And there's a PC350 special edition that inherit the same fonctions than the 360 ( like the auto mic mute when you flip it back up )

Prepare to hear the word "Sennheiser" about 300 times.

Are you looking for a high-quality media centred headset or more or a gaming one?

HA.

Sennheiser (PC350/360) is only reserved for people who like have to HAVE an attached mic because they are persnickety noobs.

Gaming= audio technica.

I know the fit is kind of awkward on these things, but they are SOOOOOOOO light and they have a great sound stage. Price is pretty low, and if you pair them with the right equipment, they also double as awesome audio play back headphones.

Audio technica ATH-A900X with a mod mic. thumb.gif

By the way OP, You said you want a boom mic, and I recommended the mod mic, is that OK with you? Or do you need something like the pc 350s.

you were talking about the word "sennheiser" which I find difficult to spell (not intuitive) hence my comment about the spelling.

And then I answered to the other sentence of your post in which you were asking if he needed a headset for gaming or music and I responded "gaming" because it was mentionned in the very first post.

anyways, Now adressing to angel, Can you link a few examples of mod mic that would go with a micless headset ?
Also the model your are submiting is quite expensive : anything good in a lower price range ?
