Overclocking FX-6100 Black Edition - Bad Chip?

Hey guys, been stalking this forum for a good year now and it's finally time to ask for help.

I have an ASUS M5A78L USB/3 Motherboard and have the AMD FX 6100 running off it, I managed to get 4300mhz a while ago only using multiplier and get it stable. Then at the beginning of this year, I got my first SSD (OCZ Agility - absolute BEAUTY) So all my settings were reset, now i've been looking into a more performance built overclock, tweaking HT Link and Bus Speeds instead of just multiplier. I can probably hit 4.3ghz if I pushed it to 1.5v but that's just pathetic.

I'm kind of suspicious that my motherboard is bottlenecking my CPU altogether, I don't know if this is possible but seeing other people's 6100 benchmarks and compare them to mine, I'm under half of their scores. Passmark is the main one that i've been a bit unsure about, I was running 3 tests and turning all the scores into an average and want to know if anyone else with a 6100 could tell me their scores?

Stock - 3475.20
4.0GHZ - 4192.73
4.3GHZ - 4453.60 (unstable but benchmarked anyway to check scores)

So with my scores above, I compared this to Bubba Hotepp's 'adventures in upgrading fx-6100' and he's got a score of 8000 at 4.5ghz. I'm only 200mhz off and he's on a literal double points. His Score

I see he's at 1.4v+ but the scores he's getting are just stupid. My motherboard also has some stupid settings that aren't like most boards and are extremely annoying such as, increasing the multiplier eventually gives itself voltage? Can't have 3.9ghz with 100% LLC or auto (48%) because I have say 1.45v at idle and 1.390v while under load?

So, this is more of a cry for help, it runs fine in games and can maintain a good 70+fps on bf3 with high/ultra settings but I'm still concerned about benchmark results.

Any help will be useful, cooling isn't a problem btw, as it's solved under my Noctua fan which is incredible.

I think u schould be happy with the results you got so far, i have the same chip and i run mine at 4.2. Its not gonna beat an intel in benchmarks but then again i really dont need it to.if it games well and isnt a frying pan like some intels iam happy! I think your motgerboard is holding u back if anything try and pick up a 990fx chipset u schould see better results? I have the asus m5a97 and like i said iam happy with my current set up,.i read the same article on bubbas bulldozer except i overclock my chip on fsb only beacuse iam not to good with all the settings. And according to a few guys on ocn 4.2 for this chip u schould be very pleases to achive those results! Its a decent gaming chip at a bargin price,pió far that hasnt been 1 game i dont get 60 fps win win situation if u ask me! Can u share some of the settings u use id like to see how far i can push my chip as well, how high is your v core???

you do know that the temp reporting is different right?

AMD max temps is in the 70s. Ivy Bridge is 105*

There was a guide on differentiating temps on how Intel and AMD reports them, I will try to find it and post back.

I managed to hit 4.6ghz last night haha, but I didn't test for stability as it was hitting 1.5v idle biggrin.gif i'll be happy to push it as far as I can go once I get an FX-8350. I'll attatch an excel sheet that I made with some results, managed to get 4.2ghz on quite a nice voltage although it doesnt boot sometimes, so not too sure why that's happening. One time it will be fine then another time it wont. Yeah I get 60fps on most games too! I will post again when I get home from work.

One tip I can give you is put your Vcore at 1.4 and use 48% LLC and keep pushing the multiplier, say you're at 4.2ghz/1.4v, do a prime95 test and check what voltage it runs at, I would personally say that is what the cpu can run at so try aim for around that zone, you can keep taking away vcore until you fail to boot etc.

Past 4.2ghz I found that the voltages just became too much and aren't really worth the price of electric/performance.
