[POLL] Shipping services, which do you usually choose?

Poll Results: What shipping option do you usually choose?

  • 48% (14)
Snail-Mail, Ground, Cheapest option -- It'll get here when it gets here, no need to shell out for shipping.
  • 41% (12)
In Between (Fedex express saver, UPS 2-Day, etc.) -- A good compromise, as my time is worth the extra shipping
  • 3% (1)
Overnight -- Waiting... Ain't no body got time for that!
  • 6% (2)
Something else -- Maybe you roll a die and choose the corresponding option?

As I type this I am faced with the unfortunate fact that my tidbits for my dual-loop conversion will not be delivered until Monday, despite my best efforts to have it here by the weekend. This has piqued my interest on what the masses typically opt for in terms of shipping services for their hardware, cooling gear, and what-not. No scientific study behind this, just my curiosity (Since I won't be doing any re-build this weekend mad.gif)

So Vote, and if there is something different, or a pattern that you follow that I missed let me know! thumb.gif

I just go for the cheapest option, the site I usually buy from are within 3 hours of me 90% of the time I get my parts next day or 2 days max.
Ground is typically all I go for with the exception of my Amazon Prime stuff (friggin' love that).

I will use the slowest available besides the DHL snail mail. I'd rather not wait two months.

I prefer UPS. Depending on how far away the shipper is (and/or how fast I need it), I usually go UPS ground (if I don't need it fast or if the shipper is on the east coast) or USP "Orange" (aka 3rd day) if it's on the west coast.

UPS is generally cheaper than FedEx, and I prefer it over "snail mail" because they (UPS or FedEx) gives a much more accurate (or even present at all) method of tracking the item.
Whatever is cheapest usually. I feel like a lot of water cooling sites need to make better use of USPS Priority flat rate boxes. You can get them for free. There is a flat rate based on the size of box you used, not the weight of the box. Those commercials say "if it fits, it ships" which is true. It frustrates me whenever I add stuff to my cart and their fee for USPS priority goes up when I know for a fact that the added items would not have increased the size of the box they had to use. Example: last night I added an extra fitting to my cart at jab-tech.com and the fee for USPS priority jumped up $4 (more than the price of the fitting). That is BS. Frozencpu seems to be the worst offender when it comes to shipping prices IMO.

I used to go with the cheaper options but now a days I tend to go for the middle ground. I'll pay a bit extra for 2-3 day turnaround (as long as the shipping rate isn't something horrible). If I'm blocked and at a standstill (or unable to work at all) by not having something, I'll even pay for overnight where needed. My time is worth more to me than the money.

However, I thoroughly abuse my Amazon Prime account when I can. The free shipping default for Prime members means the optional faster shipping methods (2-3 day) are stupid cheap. And overnight is pretty good too. If I can find the item I need through Amazon that's the route I'll usually go. For a lot of things this works out well. However for watercooling parts, which is an interesting and eclectic product niche, Amazon usually isn't carrying it.
