[Solved] Horrific scaling issues going from 2-way to 3-way XFire on 7970s (3DMark score cut in HALF!)

Hey guys, I'm creating this thread because I've exhausted pretty much all avenues I know of to troubleshoot the issue I'm having.

I've been running two XFX GHz edition 7970s for a while, and decided to get a third card. I went with a non-GHz voltage unlocked MSI and figured I'd just OC it up to the other card's clocks.

Well here are some 3DMark results that illustrate's pretty well what's going on:

This is running with two cards. A pretty much expected score in Fire Strike.

Now this is Fire Strike with three cards. All I did was go into CCC and switch from 2-way to 3-way Xfire.

I thought maybe it had something to do with the third card not being GHz, although I couldn't imagine why, so I flashed it with GHz bios. The results were pretty much the same, however.

My other hardware is a 3930k at 4.2 (currently, just till i figure out what the deal is) and a Rampage IV Gene motherboard. The cards are running at PCI-E 3.0, at x16/x16/x8 (verified in BIOS and GPU-Z).

I've uninstalled RadeonPro and Afterburner, and I do not have AMD Overdrive enabled. If you want any more info, let me know, and thanks in advance

why not get a third XFX?
have you tried the MSI on its own and the MSI in 2x crossfire with the XFX to check if its an issue with the MSI card itself?
EDIT:
what is your powersupply?

When I clicked on the 3 way score, I expected to see ~15000 and thought maybe you had unrealistic expectations of that x8 slot.

Hopefully somebody can help you get this sorted. Thats pretty disappointing for sure.

What power supply do you have in your system? That could possibly be limiting you.

Try the 888 crossfire setup. I read somewhere that amd cards don't like different lane speeds.

Firestrike and Fire Extreme benches are broken with greater than two cards.

Didn't you bother to look at the three and four card results from the Hall of Fame? wink.gif

well suck me sideways. pardon me for just assuming that a benchmarking suite targeted towards enthusiasts doesn't play well with more than two cards lachen.gif

My PSU is a 1000W Seasonic plat for those wondering. But from the threads I've just found on Firestrike with >2 cards, I think that's my problem. +rep for restoring my sanity tongue.gif
