I had to quote this cause it's so true.
Back when I was younger, I had the most badass lock ever. A kryptonite motorcycle lock that my dad used to have for his old honda motorcycle he had many years ago

My bike was never touched no matter where it was and I owe part of it to that awesome lock

That has nothing to do with what I said at all. All you said is the CIA didn't tell the rest of the government that Iraq has WMD's. So let's demonstrate that happening...

Bush: Iraq has WMD's! We must attack!
CIA: *silence*
Bush: See! The CIA isn't telling me they don't! It's proven fact now!

Then again it probably went more like this...

Bush: Iraq has WMD's! We must attack!
CIA: We don't have any proof that...
Bush:You also don't have any proof that I'm high on cocaine, but that doesn't mean I'm not. Let's get'em!

Besides, my point was them spending a bunch of money on what they say and not getting what they say the money was spent for. And those Jews weren't slaughtered. They went to live on that farm with my old dog and great grandparents.

Now considering the equipment the NSA has that we know about, and that we don't know about. It's foolish to assume that AES256 is out of bounds for them. Sorry, but that's just an improbability wink.gif

If it takes one computer ten years to run a check on [a-zA-Z][1-9]... then it is going to take much less on a multitude of computers. That's also considering any kind of computer available to the public and run in parallel. The NSA has crap you can't even dream of.

And the fact they come out and say "we can't crack AES256 - it's suitable for top secret documents" is smoke and mirrors wink.gif "hey, other agencies, use this.... cause it's uncrackable, really. *grin*"

But you're talking about 1 document. 1 file. Tell me what they do when they finally get that oyster cracked open and there's no pearl in it.

Try to figure out the hash instead of simply opening one file?

This is why I've heard of so many stories of the police intercepting sext's (sexually explicit messages) and arresting kids. If the police can spy on their texts I'm damn sure the DEA can.

Look dude if you've really got the NSA on your tail there's gonna be a lot more you go through than changing your hash more often than every year or so. The point is, pointing out capabilities they possibly have has very little to do with the average consumer being well within their right to take security measures of their own. Rights which, as far as I'm concerned, this article was reported for the specific purpose of villainizing.

Right, but you can't change your hash on these devices. It's hard coded into the silicon.

And my point is that the NSA will have this stuff well under their control.

You think you're hiding your stuff from them, but in reality they'll have anything they want, if they want it.

I'm a big EFF fan. I'm a proponent of electronic freedoms.

People like you need to live in houses with no walls or doors. You don't have anything to hide, right?

Don't see what the big deal is, are you guys using iMessage to do illegal things? Like is anyone dumb enough to text their weed dealer "hey bro you got dat marijuana?" ?

If you have nothing to hide, them being able to read your texts would mean they can dismiss your status as a suspect if nothing fishy is going on.

I'm always careful what I text... I can post my entire text messaging and iMessage history and from that you will have no clue where I live, what I do, where my friends live etc. I even have non standard nicknames for all my hangouts. Trust nobody and nothing but yourself, your family and the friends you would take a bullet for.

Stop trying to give my rights away because you don't understand them. I care because I have a right to privacy.

This is the worst excuse for having your civil liberties and right to privacy violated. "I have nothing to hide". You deserve neither liberty nor security if you so callously cast aside your contempt for being spied on.

This. X1000.
