Replacing SLI-GTX460

Thread Starter
One of my 460's just burned out on my main rig, so I am looking to upgrade my system. I've been looking around and I was planning on just getting a pair of 660's, but the reviews are really mixed on them. Ranging from they are great, to overpriced and not worth it. So I was wondering what cards the forum would recommend for me to upgrade my 460's to. I do have a budget so I can't afford a pair of 670's or anything higher, so please no dual Titan/690's please.

I really haven't heard bad things about the 660's. I can get a 660 Ti for $260 locally (might differ online), and to me that's a fairly high-end card for a mid-range price. After that the prices almost double.

I would get a gtx 670 or a 7950, which is below the cost a sli gtx660 and it deliver enough power for 60fps in game without crazy graphic detail.

660ti for sure dude. I have a windforce 670 and I never hear the fans even when playing games. Skyrim I get about 42 fps with the highest demanding ENB, and just about every texture mod you can imagine. I'd like to say that the 670 speeds are attainable by the 660ti with some OC just like the 670 with 680 and so on.

660ti sli will beat the 680 in some cases, others not, sometimes the 670 blows it off just because of single and dual GPU shenanigans.

Or there's the 650ti BOOST, but I would wait for more reviews.

If you're on a tighter budget get an AMD card. I can get a 7970 new for 360ish bucks, and a 7950 new for less that 300 probably around 290.

It all depends on if you want sli or not. Personally I like single, because when the time comes I can always add another.

Why go for SLI'd cards right away? Maybe go for a GTX 670/GTX 680 and if you need more power SLI another card?

I've always been happy with dual cards myself, so I don't know really. I'll probably decide between the 660/660 Ti and the 7950.

On a side note, your avatar is creepy as hell.

I think an appropriate question would be what resolution are you running? I ended up switching from a 570gtx to a 7950 to increase my vram to run a 1440p monitor. While most games run 1.5gb, a heavy modded skyrim hits 2.7gb.

I'm happy with my overclock on my 7950 and have not had much trouble. Waiting to pick up another for CF.
