[kotaku] The Next Xbox Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games - Page 3

The average user will still buy the xbox.
Sales will go down a small amount, but not significantly.
That's my prediction.

My reasoning; most people have their xbox connected to a network anyway so having DRM like this won't affect them in any way. And I'm sure the marketing department will know how to put a positive spin on it.

I'm not a console guy anymore but I think I agree with you. If you look at what Sony has really been playing up with their press releases and PS4 reveal is that they are really working with developers to make it easy for them to not only get certified and published on PS4, but also to try and make easier for their games to get discovered once they are there. Especially for indie games, like Minecraft, that is a big deal. Microsoft is still not on board and sticks to their publisher partner requirement and $40,000 update costs.

Then you have this other issue where Microsoft is trying to make the xbox the center of your entertainment center, taking the focus off of gaming, and we all know how well this has worked for others in the past.

I think the next generation is shaping up to the be the Sony generation. Or maybe the iPhone/Android/PC/Sony generation.

I will still end up buying the next xbox and PS4 for differnent reasons. Mostly because I have too much money and no friends.

it is pathetic that you "need" a gold membership to access 95% of the media on the 360. If you can't access it on silver, stop flooding the dashboard with that crap! I always have gold regardless because of multiplayer, but it's just retarded that gold member ship is pretty much necessary to truly have the full xbox experience.

This, but at the end of the day, we dealt with it. The always on thing though? I ain't with it. I already had to make my NBA 2k13 myCareer player offline mode because 2k games required an always on connection, and with my wifi signal being as bad as it is, it kept being disconnected from live, which kept messing up my saves and forcing me to play games I already played. Imagine losing 20 points in a game, and having to replay it over just to lose again. Always-On in any form is stupid and I hope Microsoft isn't really considering this.

I wont be getting the new Xbox now. The only reason I got a console was so I could take it with me when I go on vacation. I don't always have a internet connection to hook into.

I think we all know this is true, but this is still a rumor at this point

Sony said they are leaving this up the Publishers

Tell me...what publisher is not going to require it? So going with the PS4 is not the way around this. Though you should be able to play a few games bought of the PSN I'd think. I am sure any game from a major publisher will require it.

Good, time for Microsoft to fail at Consoles. I hate Microsoft ever since I had two Xbox 360's die of the Red Ring of Death. Now these idiots are ruining Consumers gaming experiences by forcing Internet Connections on Single player games. LOL, they even charge money for Xbox-Live which is a scam as it is since you can connect to PS3 for free the way internet is suppose to be when you're already paying for the internet service from your provider. These Radicals think they can ruin our Gaming, nope not going to happen Bill.

Well, I guess it looks like Console gaming is dead for me for the Next-Gen. This is ridiculous.

It will affect sales big time when people find out that their internet doesn't stay on 24/7 and every so often cuts off. Internet Providers do maintenance on their connection every so often and I think some people on Overclock don't realize that like the strong supporters of this Bill. Also, some people's internet will just go out on it's own like mine has from the wind, storms, and so on.
