Gtx 670 overclocked or regular gtx 680

Thread Starter
So I'm building a pc and I'm on a tight budget. I can get a gtx 670 for $100 less than a gtx 680.
If I overclock a gtx 670 will it match or go further than a 680?
I want to run games like battlefield 3 and crysis 3 on high-ultra. Thanks! Oh and if I overclock the gtx 670 will I need to cool it down specially? Will the case fans be fine?

Hi smile.gif. I have a gtx 670, i play a lot of bf3 mp, it runs well on ultra. You can take a look at the Msi Twin Frozer.

You can consider the amd 7950, you can get this card for cheaper than the 670, and with the driver 12.11, it will perform the same in bf3.

And yes, a overclocked 670 will perform the same or better than stock 680.

For 100$ more 680 is not worth it.

If I were to overclock it would i need a water block for it?

Water blocks enable you to overclock higher, but you can overclock on air fine without them.

I wouldn't pay for an OC model when you can do it manually and save some $$... most reference will match those clocks anyways. You might run into some of that kepler thermal throttling but i doubt you are going to notice any real world difference from 13 or 26 Mhz.

Do you mean stock 680, OCed 680, etc?

670 performance is quite close to a 680.
