unless batteries improve Tegra can be as fast as it likes but the experience will only last a few minuets, where as you can play jaggie low res PS3 games now at a full 25fps for as long as you want !

Uhh... Xbox 360's CPU is like 115GFLOPS alone combined with 240GFLOPS for the GPU. The PS3 is similar. Matching last-gen consoles 10 years after they released in a tech segment that has a very high turnover rate is not impressive.

What's more is that it will never produce visuals that are on par considering the memory bottleneck of mobile platforms and the resources developers pour into them.

Tegra 6 is a 2015-2016 chip and it won't come anywhere near 1.8TF even if you account for the 7x increase. Especially won't match the 170GB/s memory bandwdith.

I think all things being considered with tech today you are spot on. However have you considered they might be new battery types or some sort of energy storage using graphene cells ?

Nvidia is throwing away their future of ever having a console again if they keep doing this. Sony and MS aren't going to look back too fondly at Nvidia running around saying "my mobile chip is better than your crappy console, don't buy consoles!" because they didn't get much, if anything, for a single generation.

I just wish Nvidia would shut up already. We get it, x1800 and 7800 are old and slow and it's not difficult to beat it now. They can rattle the saber all night long but I still haven't forgotten about the whole TegraZone fiasco when TegraZone was unlocked for other chips and they outperformed Tegra.

You seem to imply that nvidia was passed over by Sony and MS, and rejected on the merits of nvidia as a company. When in fact it is nvidia who will not accept the peanuts Sony and MS offered nvidia for their technology. The only thing that has to change for there to be an nvidia GPU in consoles again, is for nvidia to be in a desperate enough position that the deal offered to them makes sense. Although their GPUs are thriving, AMD is currently in a position where they need every bit of revenue they can get. However, I don't disagree that nvidia is being a total douche in releasing a statement like this.

Ah, so you use your phone to do what current gpu's can do besides game? Didn't think so. In this context, comparing it for gaming is very much useful.

MS and Sony wanted an x86 CPU.

Nivida only has an ARM CPU.

IBM only has the PowerPC CPU.

Intel is obviously going to play hardball given their past history of refusing to drop CPU prices when ultrabook manufacturers complained Intel's CPUs were too expensive, and Intel's king-of-the-hill x86 position.

VIA doesn't have a CPU that can deliver the performance needed.

AMD has an APU that can reduce mobo costs by only using one CPU+GPU chip instead drawing additional connection wires and soldering two chips onto the mobo.

I care to disagree. I have quite a bit of money in the stock market, and this news means maybe a 2% gain on monday for nvidia. MAYBE. They have like 3% of the smartphone chip marketshare, tegra 4 has the fastest mobile GPU to date (not counting AMD's APU x86 for mobile as they only have oems at the moment) but they are unofficially too power hungry for smartphones and limited to to tablets.
nvidia will wont make a dent in the smartphone market because samsung and apple have their own chips, they account for 60% of the market, and the rest is qualcomm turf, which has a way better performance per watt ratio. AMD has a way better of creeping into some of qualcomms marketshare, but not by much.

What about Intel's push.

I'm curious to see how Nivida, AMD, and Intel perform in the mobile market down the road.
