Need gpu upgrade advice

Thread Starter
I am currently running the PC in my signature. I bought the GT520 last year as a quick replacement when my two 7800gt's died. I have found that this card will only allow me to play CS:S or L4D2 on my 1920x1080 monitor at low to medium settings. I know this is an old PC but I am playing older games and was wondering if you think that getting a different graphics card would help my issue as I know that the gt520 is a low end card. Would it make more sense to get like a used 8800 or 9800 to avoid bottle necking the cpu too much? or should I just get something better such as a gtx 460, etc.?
any input would be appreciated! I just want to play CS:S and L4D2 on high settings @ 1920x1080, haha is that too much to ask?

I would first check to see if you have enough ram for the games. From the look of it you have 3GB total. I would maybe look at upgrading that. If you do want to upgrade your gpu then I would probably suggest a GTX-660 or a HD7870. Honestly I think your system should be updated with new motherboard and ram.

I once stuck my 560 Ti on an old emachines (2.0 ghz sempron single core)
since i blew my gaming PC mobo so I stuck it in there And all my games ran incredibly faster and smoother. Even though the gpu wasn't at it's full potential it was still an insane improvement.
Unless money is really tight the 550-570 gtx gpus are pretty cheap.
