Except the game isn't free.
Ehh? If it has that much effect than yeah...that is just wrong. That is likely part of the advertisement. They want people to think, "Wow, if my sims are this happy maybe I will be happy with it in real life."
The equivalent of an electric gas station should not have that much effect.
and I also have issues with paying for a game with advertisements, but product placement isn't that detracting and can actually add to a game or movie. It makes them seem more real...more immersive. When you starting seeing ads popping up everywhere there is an issue, but a few well placed are OK even if they go beyond product placement. That is why I don't subscribe to any magazine that isn't free. Every magazine I've looked at there is an ad visible each time you turn a page. It might be only one corner of one of the viewed pages, but there will be an ad of some kind. How they can sell space like that and still charge a subscription or cover charge is beyond me. TV isn't much better...at least they wait 10 minutes to show another commercial most of the time.
