So while "free is free", unless people kick and scream and show Maxis/EA that this sort of thing isn't going to be accepted, then it will signal to their corporate bean counters (and more importantly to me, OTHER companies and games) that people will be accepting of this sort of nonsense and it will appear more and more often ... until you can't buy a game from anyone unless it is heavily branded at every turn.

Bottom line, it's time to hold Maxis/EA accountable for their LIE and that we don't want video games with product placement ads all over the place.

Please, provide such a quote.

And then, once you do or admit you can't, explain how in-game advertising that doesn't disrupt gameplay is a bad thing. It'd be one thing if we were talking forced commercial breaks. It's billboards in a city simulation. And before you go saying one leads to the other, I'd go and read up on why the slippery slope argument is considered a fallacy.

Because I hate myself and I already paid for the game, put 70 hours into it which equates to less then $1 per hour so I basically got my moneys worth last month...

It's really sad that so much people support EA in this decision.

We're so used to piss poor moves from EA/Activision that most of us arent even annoyed anymore when they happen.

I know, how dare we not be outraged at things you want us to be outraged at. rolleyes.gif

I'd say its sadder that people want to cry about things they'd literally have to consciously force themselves into doing, even though it would make them cry. Just so they can cry about it, because the truth is that they're probably masochists. Or just like to whine about games they know nothing about, have never played and will never buy anyway.

Its like saying you don't like cheese, buying a cheese sandwich, eating some to see what It tastes like and then being completely appalled at the fact that the sandwich you just ate contained cheese.

If you don't like DLC and you think its just ads and don't see any worth, don't download the flipping thing.....if you don't want it in your game, don't put it there.

People are in a fit because of a billboard inside the game advertising for Nissan? When playing Burnout Paradise (pc version), I did not immediately get angry and stop playing because various billboards had ads that changed every so often.

Sim City is not my kind of game, so will not be buying it, but I do not see the HUGE deal over that screenshot showing the ad.

Yes, and its optional as well. You don't have to install it. I guess the reaction on here shouldn't be surprising; many members of this site like to complain and moan about everything.

You totally missed my point about setting a dangerous precedence.

It's not a billboard, but thank you for showing everyone you didn't even bother to open up the link in the OP to even bother talk intelligently about the subject. If you had, you would have seen that it wasn't a billboard.

Makes perfect sense. When multiple core aspects of a game are broken. You don't waste resources developing content that does not enhances or fix those core features. The whole multiple team argument is what is invalid. At the very least you include the addon in a much larger patch so it is just a sum of a greater whole to at least give people a sense you are doing a little more than nothing.

It doesn't really matter, the glass box engine is either broken or inferior to the design document that was released.

Looking back at those video's where Quigley interviews WIll Wright about Sim CIty are even more laughable after playing the most dumbed down Sim City game in recent memory. Will Wright can't think this is a great game.

You still haven't provided a link proving EA was lying about saying they weren't going to do in-game advertising. tongue.gif

And to be fair.. there is a billboard next to the charge station (which you can see in the picture at the top of the page). xD
