I'm stuck on a decision of what size motherboard I should get for my first pc build. Its going to be my main rig for my graphic design job and gaming. I have all the parts I want figured out, except the case and motherboard.

List:

Mobo: (matx) maximus IV gene OR (atx) ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155

Case: (matx) fractal design arc mini OR (atx) arc Midi r2

PSU: corsair 600w

Ram: corsair vengeance 2x4 black

CPU: i5 3570k ivy bridge

CPU cooler: corsair h100i

Gpu: evga gtx 660

I originally wanted a matx motherboard because of the smaller case form factor. I have my setup in my bedroom, so I sort of wanted it more compact and a bit maneuverable. I will be overclocking the i5, but have no plans on watercooling. I don't really believe I need sli for the gaming and graphic design I will be doing, so no multiple gpu's probably either. I just wanted to ask, should I buy a matx or atx motherboard? Do think losing a a few PCI slots is worth the minor size difference in cases?

I just feel like I'm losing performance because of my decision for small form factor.

Appreciate some opinions or suggestions for my rig plans. smile.gif Thanks

There's nothing in the mATX spec that's inherently inferior to full-size ATX boards in performance.

If the the only on-board expansion slot you'll be using is a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot for your one video card (since you mentioned that won't be running SLI), then there's really no downside to having an mATX board.
