The Q66 is a great chip if you can get it overclocked to around 3.6. I had mine for a long time and still wish I had it. It chomps pretty much any game these days.

Crap.... I got the case cause the newegg reviews said the included power supply was good.

Lol.... im not expecting much though for a $25 refurb case with psu...lol

I guess Im stuck keeping the q6600 as a movie machine, wasnt thinking about throwing money at it/overclocking untill after I ordered it : (

Ugg... I kinda always wanted to throw a ud3p mobo under the q66 and nice air cooler and see what it can really do.... and I remember when I built this years ago it had G0 stepping in cpuz

Well its up to you. A newer rig would be better, but like me, my 775 Socket is still killing newer games, heck even Crysis 3 was nothing my Rig couldn't handle. But i got my gear for cheaper prices a year or so back when things was a tad cheaper.

So while i would love for you to see what that Q6600 has got with a good Mobo and GPU, i am sure it will suit your needs for the most part. It wouldn't hurt to just patch it up and use it as a Back-Up or Movie Rig and get yourself a i5 or FX CPU with a 7870/GTX 660Ti or better and get more "Future" capable Rig. It's your choice. smile.gif

Ya, im leaning towards this being a backup rig.

Maybee, hopefully, fingers crossed I can get this thing clocked from 2.4 to 3 using this cheap asrock mobo and a different cooler.

Thanks everyone!

you could ask around different forums if anyone is willing to sell one to you, or you could just try a different mobo, one with ddr3 ram since its cheaper than ddr2. i just learned that my EVGA 790i FTW can utilize 16gb ddr3 ram. i have a q9400 and its awesome, but while i know its no where near a cost effective idea, i plan to upgrade it to a q9550 or qx9650 or even a qx9770. I just wish my 790i could do crossfire...

socket 775 is still beastly, dont let anyone else tell you otherwise. It may be weaker than 1155 or 1366 for that matter but it sure as hell gets the job done.

If you can upgrade it for $100 - $250 I would say its worth it, but anymore is a no no.

It's time to upgrade man. I upgraded from a q6600 setup in late 2012 and have been really happy. Less heat + more power, can't go wrong with that.

I just read some horror stories about this diablotek psu... wow I should of researched first.
Im scarred to run it and even if its a good psu it seems the longest they last is 4-6 months.

I have a couple older 400w power supplies but they dont have the 6pin power connector for the vid card.

Could I cut the 6pin connector off the diablo psu and splice it into 2 12v supplies on older psu?

I would think you would be fine doing that, just be careful and make sure its grounded correctly. I know they have adapters that go from 2 molex to one 6 pin, but I've never used them.

The only thing I'm unsure of is how much power the system draws. If its more than what the psu will handle you might have some problems.

my q6600 @3.6GHz can "barely" keep up with my GTX480.......anything more powerful, and cpu bottleneck becomes abundantly clear

Might do ok on some games and medium settings depends on the game if its a really cpu demanding game probly will have trouble the q6600 should be able to hit 3600mhz with the right board but they arent cheap now days cause they are so rare.
