back up the saved game files into an empty CD (or DVD). that way you do not transfer the infected file to a back up hard drive.

If your friend is reluctant to format, just ask him: Is keeping your saved games worth risking losing your credit card information and Steam login information?

He more than likely won't, viruses and such are usually stored in the windows folder and subfolders and in the user/appdata folders. Putting it in saved game folders would be dumb because not every computer has the same games but they all have appdata and system32 folders.

Have him use a different pc to change all his passwords online. Try running malware bytes in safe mode. If it finds nothing, back up everything and format.

why is he running Hamachi, is he getting remote help from someone? Or does he access the system remotely? Hamachi can also be used for creating a proxy, if he doesn't need that then he can uninstall it. However it's more likely that his information was taken from a server rather than a keylogger. Many people's accounts and information can be hacked by running it through rainbow tables or a similar program. Just advise him to change all passwords, and switch them to 8+ characters with !@#$% and other special characters as well as numbers and upper case.
