need thin 120mm fans

Thread Starter
hi all

im after 6 thin 120mm fans. i currently have the standard 25mm think ones, but my gpu wont fit in my new case with them.

i need them, to be able to move air, as im using them for case ventilation, hdd cooling etc... they are not on a sink.

my new case is a backblaze pod, and has capacity for 45 3.5hdd's. so cooling them is important to me, there are three fans at the front of the case, and then three behind the drives. i also have dust filters for the front suction fans, to help eliminate dust, as i live in a fairly dusty area.

im after fans tha move a bit of air, are thin, and quiet. i am unable to use a fan controller due to the layout of the case (i cant even use my dvd drive) so will use my mobo, and if need be control them from the software.

as there are different types of fans, aimed at different uses, and i havent a clue what the correct type for me is.

cheers

well if you are comparing them to a regular 25mm fan of course they are going to be crap.

But those select few are probably your only choices on the matter. As not alot of manufactures make <25mm fan's

I would personally go with the yates as those are the cheapest.
Small wonder.

I'm afraid what you want is a pipe dream. For fan so overcome resistance and move air the blades cover almost all of the circle they are in. This keeps air from moving back through them. The thicker the fan the steaper the blade pitch can be and the slower they can run and supply air. 25mm is kinda the optimum thickness for most applications. 38mm supply even more. But go less than 25 and it becomes very hard for fan to have good performance. That is an over simplified explanation but hopefully you get the idea.

If fan size is your top priority, then check out the Scythe Slipstream slim edition

ok, slight change of plans. i have dropped the fan that interfears with my gpu. so i can now use 5 120mm fans up to 32mm thick. still want the same high flow, high volume, good quality, and most importantly, low noise.

whats the bombdiggity choice.

cheers
