Windows XP PRO (32bit &/OR/vs. 64bit)

Hey.

I'm planning to dual boot my new rig. I want to install
Windows XP PRO 32-Bit
Windows XP PRO 64-Bit
each on a 50GB partition, on the 320GB SATA HDD.

If I use other partitions for data files, will there be any problems?

I'm also planning to do some benchmarking for the two OSs (Personal Project). I'm trying to see which is a wiser choice for college students (somewhat targeting the Computer Science area). And ideas or comments?

Benchmarking Areas:
- Running compilers
- Multitasking
- Data Read/Write
- Gaming/3D
- Other interesting Ideas?
- And ideas on IPv6?

All ideas / comments (positive or negative) are welcome

If I don't see ANY significant difference in ANY of the areas, I'm gonna be disappointed.

No theres no problem with that.

Well Windows XP 64 iS INDENTICAL to 32Bit apart from the 64Bit coding.

Windows XP 64'S only realy advantage is its improvement in memory adressing ...Thus faster in general. However Driver and sfotware support for this OS IS POOR at best im afraid...Most drivers are still in Beta stages. Also you will get an FPS decrease in games...This has happend across the board.

Benchmarks apart from Memory adressing will generally show a slight decrease.

Cool thanks. Is there a specific way to test the difference in memory addressing, other than just timing different applications?

I think I'll do some research on it now.

Anyone have ideas for benchmarking ideas or tips?

Well if thats a Question most likely half the time of 32 due to the Extended adressing.

Thanks I'll see if the PCMark's basic edition has the features that I need enabled. I'm a newbie at these things. he he

Yes the booting sequence is different and known to be very fast on the x64.
Enterprise:
Yes that'll be interesting to see. Will they actually be twice as fast? I doubt it.

Well Perhaps not twice as fast but faster for sure.

My 3dmark06 score went from 12100 to 12212.

Not much of a diff.

However, in 64-bit farcry, HL2, etc. Theres a good frame difference, atleast for me.

If your looking for a big difference, just stay 32bit.

Thanks Murlocke.
But I am not making a choice for myself. I'm actually doing a small project on it. I think I've heard of a 64 bit counter strike.. and was planning to see if there are any improvements there. That's the only game I play lol. If I had time, I'd try out the Farcry and HL2. I'd love to see some numbers on them, as well as a snapshot that I could include in my project. HA HA That's if you have the time. I will definitely appreciate any kind of help! And I'll have to put your name on my project.

Dang... Just saw your system profile.. that is sick! Actually, I like the monitor the most. I'm working on a 15'' Samsung LCD right now T_T
