Project : Phanteks TC14PE + Termalright TY-143 fans + Prolimatech PRO-PK1 TP - Page 3

# Updates #

I could not resist to upgrade some fans, while the shipment was very long ! I ordered and received the following

- 1x Bitfenix Spectre Pro BFF-LPRO-20025R-RP 200MM Red LED Case Fan 900 RPM 148.72 CFM 27.5 dbA Side panel intake. Way better than my stock corsair 200mm fan !
- 2x Cougar Vortex CF-V12H Silent Cooling Fan 1200 RPM 60.40 CFM 17.7 dbA These 2 cougar fans are my front panel intakes, non-pwm.
- 1x 1-to-5 PWM w/ Molex splitter
- A multimeter which has a temp node. I will be doing tests with it.

My fans are already replaced. I configured myself some Cpu and Gpu heat curve profiles, in Speedfan. For each non-pwm fans, i have curve for both GPu and CPu heat. If one or the other are getting hot, they have their proper curve adjusting the rpm. I love it smile.gif I also tried my TY-143. It is a kind of a Jet/boing style, at full rpm haha. Even if this is pwm, i set some curves profiles too, as i did for my non-pwm fans. Was testing.

So, i have all my stuff in hand. Pk1, TY-143, two cougars 120mm, one bitfenix 200mm, my temp node.

The only thing i got to find now.. is time !! You will probably have some news in the next days !

Peace.

Sounds good. thumb.gif

Are you testing each set of fans on cooler at a specific rpm? So you know how well they cool at a rpm..
or..
Are you testing them to a specific temperature? So we know what their rpm is at give temperature.

Probably easier to set them at rpm and run to see what temp they reach.. but it's your show so will take whatever you give.wink.gif

I am actually wondering haha. I didnt buy the Cougar fans for that purpose tho (cooler testing). But it could be fun to see how they are doing on my TC14PE, versus my TY143s and the stock Phanteks Fans ! I will think about it..

On your side, with that gear, what tests would you do smile.gif ? And how biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

- Specific rpm tests could be fun ! Not sure if i want to include my Cougar on that test tho. They are already fit on my front panel smile.gif With speedfan, i could put the two sets (TYs and Phanteks) on the same RPM then see the temps @ idling, while doing something, etc. I like it ! I may play with this.

- Specific temp tests could be fun too ! I could test some idling/on load test. Having a set of two of temp data, then compare what rpm was at what temp. Could be fun.

I may play with both tests haha. I will see, depending of the time i have.. I may pass the next weekend playing with that !

Include Cougars or don't. Not a problem with me. Would be interesting to see what they can do but no big deal.

Specific rpm is pretty easy.. Little guess work if using automatic temp to fan speed but as heat builds during stress I just keep an eye on rpm and adjust setting if rpm tries to go above what I want.

Specific temp is harder because you have to adjust fan speed during stress testing to get the temp where you want it.

Would be interesting to see what the Cougars would do but as they are part of base equipment for other tests it won't work. Would need to run tests with all of the with no or some other front fans... although as long as you are recording the cooler intake air temp about 50mm in front of front cooler fan you can get accurate CPU delta temp... If with Cougars removed from front and on cooler the temp of air is 3c warmer going into cooler and the CPU runs 3c hotter than with stock fans you know Cougars are cooling the same as stock fans did. One of the advantages of using cooler intake temp and not room ambient. thumb.gif
As long as you are running same motherboard/CPU/cooler you can change whatever else in your case.. even change cases and still test other fans because you are using cooler intake air temp as standard, not room.

Any news? I'd like to know how it fares with the different fans smile.gif

Edit: I ordered mine, will give some tidbits on my old setup versus the new one and some fan differences too if that's OK. Still eager to hear what your results were thumb.gif

edit : Here is my sheet 2.0 , for the moment. Completing it by the end of the week/weekend,

At the moment, i am set with my stock Thermal compound, and my TY-143s smile.gif. I will put the PH-140 back to regather data from em. I remove them too quickly ! After then, i will change compound and complete the second parts.

Thanks a bunch for getting back to us. I'm receiving my TY-143's today, UPS scammed me but whatever I'll live with it. The Phanteks and my new case haven't even been processed by newegg yet, great way to keep new customers returning, take 2 full business days just to process 3 items and ship them. Now I'll likely only get my Phanteks and new case next week frown.gif Was hoping this weekend I could do the changes.

Edit: So I got my thermalright TY-143's today. FrozenCPU got them to me pretty quick. I haven't used them yet but the build quality seems very solid. Shame newegg has taken 2 full days and still hasn't even shipped my order of the Phanteks or my Arctic Silver 5 /rage

They haven't processed my case either so it might be a while before I get some results but as it stands with a 6~ hour prime95 (new version) running 4.7ghz at 1.255v (old prime ver let me run at 1.24v for 12hr frown.gif) my temps on a 3770k with 212+ in my antec 1100 = 86-93-90-84 which is very high. I was getting around 84 highest on the older version of prime frown.gif Hoping this run goes all the way to 12 hours. If it does I'll have something legitimate to compare to when I get my Phanteks. I'm hoping the combination of better TIM, better case air flow, better heat sink and 3x full speed TY-143's will yield a 10c drop in temps but people tell me 5c would likely be the case.

Just wanted to link this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1289884/finished-assassin-vs-nh-d14-vs-phanteks-vs-cm-v8-vs-hyper-612-vs-hyper-212

Cause a lot of folks around this site say at best I should receive 5c and 10c drop is really asking too much. It seems in this guys testing it was nearly a 20c drop just based on the cooling unit. Any thoughts on this and how he pulled that off?

It is a pleasure to get back haha. I checked your rig. It is decent ! I know its sad when you hope you get something by the weekend, but it goes the next week haha. You got a nice cpu overclock ! I have yet to find my ideal spot. You temp seem to be higher than mine tho. I guess the case and fan settings is different ! On my side, i had a time that i was just.. taking money and time to optimise everything just for fun.. lol. Every fans are changed, i added candy stuff, etc. It is a kind of a hobby i guess !

I did some update today. I remove the thermalright ty-143s to reput my stock phantek ph-140s on the heatsink. I added some stuff on my google spreadsheet. You can go see if you want ! Now, i plan to do a Battlefied session to see the difference in temperature, then i am replacing my TIM and i will remake all tests !

Great work!

I have to admit I'm surprised at only 1-2c better performance with TY-143 fans.

I assume all cores have the same difference?
