Embarrassing, yes, but I like to get an idea of how things will look like the moment I can get my parts and possibly cash in a better promo in the future (hopefully soon enough). Also, some of the recommended parts are either unavailable (which sucks) or sold on a different site. I would prefer Newegg as I can cash in free 2-day shipping from shoprunner, saving me time and perhaps some money. But I suppose if the saving is greater I can buy parts from some sites. Later I will post a new list and I would like some feedback on it.

So far, thanks for all the informative feedback and comments. It's been very great reading all of the posts, talk to you guys soon.

Nothing embarrassing about setting a budget, we certainly are not all in the same financial situation. My rig is YEArS old, and i originally built it for ~$500 bucks. A couple of sticks of ram on the cheap, used Am3 CPU, few hdds, ssd, picked up a second GPU for free, it still works fine for my needs tongue.gif

Anyhow if we stick with newegg and you make all the purchases @ once you will be somewhat limited. But thats ok.

This is something I've been thinking about the past couple of hours. What do you guys think? Any objections, new suggestions, compatibility issues, etc.?
There's a promo on the case, which I may end up grabbing first to secure that sale!

you can probably change the cpu to 8320 if it still in your budget.

If you live next to a microcenter, you should get your motherboard there as well to get the $40 off in-store combo.

Hey guys and girls, last time I was here I asked for help on building my first gaming rig in which I gave my possible budget and took everything into consideration and helped build my cousin his own gaming/3D workstation. Which came out really great, cost his parents 1,500 but it's pretty solid. Anywho, this time I need some feedback on a possible build for a gaming rig that will mines and I'm on a "high" mid-range budget. So I'm going to lay out my skeleton and please give me feedback and suggestions.

Possible uses for this build:
Gaming, (e.g. League of Legends, L.A. Noire, Crysis I & II, Metro 2033, Saints Row III, etc.)
Audio Production, (e.g. Reason 5, Fruity Loops, Logic)
Programming (e.g. Java, C++, etc.)
HD Video viewing

Please let me know if any of these uses are possible with the parts I'm looking at. And as for gaming, I'm not trying to aim for ULTRA H4X @ZZ GR4PH1X, more like medium or medium-high. If Ultra is available with the listed parts below or with a suggested part, then I will be more than happy to add it in as long as it doesn't surpass my budget which is listed below.

Budget: $800 Max

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost SC 2GB
I read some reviews that made this new GPU look FABULOUS, and if there are some fellow community members here who can vouch on the performance this card is said to have and exceed, I plan on buying another card in the future and setup an SLI. This is why I chose to go with a 650W PSU in case this GPU is worth it as a mid-range gaming card. If the card is not worth the trouble, then I will downgrade the PSU and change to a different GPU that is most recommended.

PSU: Rosewill HIVE 650W
Reason mentioned above.

Motherboard: ASRock 970 EXTREME3
A concern of mines towards this MOBO is whether it's a stable and viable motherboard, seems like it's compatible with Phenom II CPUs but does it support SLI if possible? Need some thoughts on this MOBO.

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB)

HDD: Samsung 840 Series 120GB SATA III SSD

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Grand Total with Shoprunner to this day (4/9/2013): ~$734.35
(May change due to end of promotions or new available promotions.)

I'm keeping in mind that I may not be able to purchase all these parts right now, but your feedback will help me determine whether to keep some of these parts or exchange them for a favorable part that the community helps me pick. Either way, the budget will stay same and I have no intentions of going higher except for possible upgrades like an additional GPU to Crossfire/SLI or another HDD and/or blah blah in the future.

Thanks for checking out my thread and for your honest, thoughtful and enlightening comments/suggestions.

have not read through the whole thread.

basically i would recommend a seasonic psu, i will not buy a different brand anymore get a gold x650 or x750 that is my oppionion.

the 970 chipset DOES NOT ALLOW SLI or CFX get a 990fx ( my recommendation is a Sabertooth the original, r2.0 or gen3 does not matter ) and just get a fx-8350 or 8320 you will be happy you did Edit the 6300 would be fine too

also reccomend a normal hdd ~ 1tb for your games and other programs- you can get them on sale for ~60-80

This is something I've been thinking about the past couple of hours. What do you guys think? Any objections, new suggestions, compatibility issues, etc.?
There's a promo on the case, which I may end up grabbing first to secure that sale!

I personally don't love that case, I would be looking @ http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-catp21001 or http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-caso22001 in the price range ATM, and be happy to spend $5-$10 more on a better case. Cases are very subjective though, and thats just my input. The HAF 912 goes on sale in this price range often enough as well.

Don't overlook this. You can fit a sabertooth in your budget with this bundle, or save money on a UD3 or M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Is this a more solid build now? Sucks how I had to let go the SSD, but that can wait in the future right? I get the feeling that I may be missing something, correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Also I would like to know the difference if any, some thoughts, pros and cons between the ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 and the ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
I don't see much of a difference, but then again I'm still a scrub when it comes down to this stuff.

more overclocking options and better vrms/heatsink
saberkitty has a 5 year warranty, i have heard of some problems ocing on other board.

again i say ~ saberkitty vs other board would be my preference. it is totally up to you !~ your computer dont do something your not happy with. i can tell you i have put my sabertooth through a very hot place >.>. and it is rock solid stable.

ill see what i can do about getting a sdd back into the mix
only thing i see your missing is dvd drive ~ 20 unless you have an old one

i can save you quite a bit esp if you have a microcenter near you

MOBO +CPU
8320+Sabertooth r2.0 (139.99+184.99-40 bundle) 324.98
