Opinions on which CPU for my mITX gaming machine.

So I am trying to build the smallest PC for Home Media and Gaming.

Its all going into this case

I already have a ASrock H77 mITX mobo, and an XFX 6850 thats going into it
I also scored an i3-2105 for $20 bucks and am thinking of using that as well.

My question is, since its an H77 board I wont be doing any overclocking, my use out of this machine is going to be watching HD Movies and Playing single player games.

Since I got such a good deal on my i3, should I just stick with it or try to find a locked i5 on the cheap?

That is a really weak CPU, but for 20 bucks............Not too bad a deal. I say try it out and then decide. You will be able to notice if it is bottle necking you too badly. No sense spending more money until you try it out.

an i3 is solid, but it might hold your system back when you are playing games. since you already have the i3, i'd just use that and keep an eye out for an i5.

How much do you think the 2105 would go for on here?

You could try to sell it for $70-$80 bucks. Do you have the original box, instructions, stock cooler? If you live near a microcenter you can just spend another $100 after you sell it and get a 3570k!

Agreed. Keep it for now. I always suggest to keep an eye open for a good deal on an i5 though. 2500k will be a bad ass, cheap, cpu on this machine. There are some good deals on OCN.......

Well that i3 should be just fine on single player games for you atm

But if it isnt this is the cheapest i5 atm and this is the best way to go for 8 threads

A locked i5 would be cool for anything that takes advantage of more than 2 threads, otherwise not so much. If you come across another deal like that i3 though, by all means jump on it.

I do live very close to a Microcenter and thats where I got my 3570k, but I dont see the point of buying an unlocked CPU when I am going to be using it in an H77 mobo.

I have been lurking around here and cant seem to find anyone selling any SB IB locked i5s, and on ebay they are going for way to high.

I actually scored this combo on ebay an Asus H61 mATX mobo and the i3 2105 bundled for $40. It was an auction that was about to end and no one was bidding on it and I noticed hidden in his description he stated that motherboard came with free i3 and stock cooler, from the Title it just looked like a H61 mobo for $40 and thats a little too much for that so it didnt get any bids.

I might try to sell the Mobo and CPU on here separately, maybe get $90 out of it and then I wouldnt mind buying a used i5-2400-2500, (non K) hopefully that will keep the price down.
